2.1 En su totalidad, el sistema hidrológico de la cuenca del Río Atoyac se esta moviendo en una espiral descendente autorreforzada.

Generalidades: la cuenca se ha transformado en un sistema hidrológico degenerativo donde el río y los acuíferos superiores e inferiores, acumulan continuamente y hacen circular toxinas y contaminantes, cuyas concentraciones aumentan conforme el agua se mueve río abajo hacia Valsequillo.

- 70% del agua del río son “aguas residuales” que ingresan al río acarreando contaminantes y toxinas desechadas en actividades domésticas, industriales, agrícolas y de plantas de tratamiento del agua subterránea.

- Conforme se saca agua del acuífero superior para estos usos doméstico, industrial y agrícola, este se alimenta del agua del río con sus contaminantes y toxinas para volverse a llenar.

2.1 The overall hydrological system of the Rio Atoyac watershed is moving in a self-reinforcing downward spiral.

Overall: The watershed has been transformed into a degenerative hydrological system in which the river and the upper and lower aquifers are continuously accumulating and cycling toxins and contaminants, building increasing concentrations as water moves downriver into Valsequillo.

- 70% of the water in the river is “discharge water” that enters the river carrying pollutants and toxins from domestic, industrial and agricultural uses and sub-surface water treatment plants.

- As the upper aquifer is tapped to supply the water for these domestic, industrial and agricultural uses, it draws down the river water, along with the contaminants and toxins, to replenish itself.
