People have come to me and sought advice on how to start a business, but don’t have any idea where to start. They may not even have an idea, but they do know they are not satisfied with their current lives and want some personal coaching. They are afraid of the risks involved to change but desire something else in their lives. I often suggest they can get their feet wet by joining a network marketing organization with a product or service they would want to personally use every day. Then they can begin to represent these products honestly. Often these organizations have strong leadership and support with an infrastructure in place to assist an individual to start a business. A person can start down this path without the necessity of leaving a current job and income. They can mitigate personal risk and still learn aspects of developing their own business. The upside can be so rewarding.

You can make extra money, learn from people that have already become successful and want the same for you and obtain a sense of personal accomplishment, all the while enjoying tax right offs!

Perfect. Let’s go into that a little bit. I’m sure a lot of the readers are at that point of transition in their life, but it’s in the back of their mind. It’s how do I get out of corporate and become an entrepreneur? What kind of tips can you give on that?

Claudia Harvey: First of all, do not be impulsive. That’s critical. I see many people frustrated in their corporate job and who doesn’t? You get frustrated in any job. It doesn’t matter what job it is. Even when you’re an entrepreneur, you can be frustrated. But don’t be impulsive and just quit. Plan and determine a course of action to take, and then execute. When I decided to leave the corporate world, I had a small nest egg saved and a network of family and friends that was very supportive. Leaving the corporate life behind, I realized I would no longer have the big car allowance, the benefits and all the trappings that come with corporate life. So I planned for that.
