ort is the most important function to establish cities. forms of port cities that have the port function are only 3 types in human history. They are Fold type, Pier type and Island type. All redevelopment areas of port cities witch have redevelopment areas are said to gain success in the world are Fold type and Pier type. On the other hand, there is only modern redevelopment area same as inland in Tokyo bay area in spite of it's a few Island type. For this reason, I propose urban / architectural methods that are peculiar to Tokyo bay area.

o clarify morphological characteristics of Tokyo bay area, I compare it with 12 world port cities. It is a shoreline to be important in analyzing morphological characteristics. A shoreline occurs on a bordar of land area and water area. I devised "Valuable shoreline length expression" and performed quantitative analysis because there were few studies that were analyzed the shoreline, land area and water area into quantitatively until now. In this way, it revealed that Tokyo bay area is port city of Sea type and Island type similar to Venezia, it contributes to high hydrophilicity.

o introduce a point of view that human being experiences hydrophilic spaces, it is necessary to analysis higher resolution. Therefore I perform the space analysis for redevelopment areas of 12 port cities. About my analysis, I use the space syntax theory was proposed by Bill Hillier. Then I apply concepts of convex space and axical line and use it. Thereby they allowed to articulate hydrophilic spaces from a shoreline and to grasp it. Using this method, I perform quantitative analysis of hydrophilic spaces in redevelopment areas. From the result, redevelopent areas of port cities of Sea type formed better hydrophilic spaces than River type in hydrophilic coefficient. On the other hand, it revealed that redevelopment areas of port cities of River type formed better hydrophilic spaces has multiplicity and compact in hydrophilic spaces. Because of these, there is still room for the improvement in all redevelopment areas of port cities. Keeping that in mind, it is necessary to utilize to hydrophilic spaces of Tokyo bay area.

larify the positioning of port cities in Japan. I chose 4 port cities that redevelopment was carried out the rapid economic growth period later, and the city exhibition was held. Cities that I chose were KOBE port island, seaside MOMOCHI, minato mirai 21, TOKYO water front city and analyze the establishment process of those cities. Thereby, it revealed that port cities were used as ideal places for national advertising from 1970 to 1995 and as influx places of private huge capital after 1995. Then port cities has the possibility that can be reinstated as land for cities after 2020.

set the turning point where modern development of the Tokyo port was carried out after the Meiji era. Then I performed analysis of the chronological order for reclaimed land among the water area. I understood that the size of the island spreads whenever the generation passes. They were filled up as warehouse sites and ports from post-war to the rapid economic growth period. It is the time when it was developed to expand the city function. The development that it's gradually led by nation and capital comes to be carried out. The early stage of reclaimed land has already changed a use in that.

As analysis items, I adopted 6 items of Program Distribution, Hydrophilic Space, Inviolability Area, High-rise Building, Traffic Infrastructure and Historical Transitions.

rom past analysis, I reveal positioning of the Tokyo port in the world and inland in Japan. According to these, 9 characteristics of the Tokyo bay area became clear. Then Shibaura terminal was extracted as the island that condensed these characteristics most. Therefore, I design for Shibaura terminal.

s the design method, I use Island / Fold / Pier that are morphological characteristics vocabulary. In applying these vocabulary to a plan and section, I can design watersides, hydrophilic spaces and buildings integrally. Therefore, I can develop hydrophilic spaces three-dimensionally. At the same time, I utilize "hydrophilic land area / non-hydrophilic land area", "hydrophilic space of human scale / social scale" and "violability area / inviolability area" which are spatial characteristics.

From AUTHORITY to the RIGHT All of things are fragmented in modern society. Politicians as able representative who are elected among the nation do not exist anymore. And the national diet building as a symbol of their authority is also said that it is anachronism. On the other hand, it is infiltrating that indipendence form the relation that local depends on the center. It’s so-called the minarchism concept. So we can except an image in the future that the prefectures and cities share a role. In that sense, it needs that the place where everyone can come and voice their opinions in the center of Japan as the firm immovable place. Now, “The Symbol as a Hope”, lasts several hundred years, is built as one and only existence that can give the right to the nation.

do period (1603 - 1868), Japan is separeted in comparision with present to be concentrated in Tokyo. Then each districts, called by HAN, formed para-naitons. Therefore the center of Japan existed as the symbol of minarchism. But after Meiji period (1868 - 1912), only Tokyo as the center of Japan more suddenly grew up than any other destricts. Thanks to it, Japan could get economic power and strength of the nation not to be defeated by foreign countries. However, in already matured present Japan, it's necessary not only Tokyo but also the local development. To do it, local of Japan have to get a strength again like HAN in Edo period. To express the well, third axis direct to histric place of Edo castle's castle tower.

ynamic symmetry, named by Kenzo Tange, is traditional composition in Japan. For example, Temple such as the Horyu-ji temple and stones of Japanese garden. It is different from tipical symmetry that is used well in Europe. The point to have a center is same, but other components are located more fluidly. And it becomes dynamic composition as a whole. Then I recomposed blocks of the site based on thinking of dynamic symmetry. And I put functions corresponding to each blocks.

he current national diet building has a tower at the center as the symbol of authority of the state. But it referred to German ideas before world war 2 and it already become out of date. Therefore the contemporary national diet building must make new symbolic architecture and be designed for the nation. To realize it, I make open place at the center of this site and flow from every direction. 45

Feeling SPACE through a BODY Shimbashi that is a target site is the city that high information industries accumulate and continues growing up. To make this place more creative, I propose art gallery and temporary art fair. And I make workspaces like Fablab as a place of manufacturing. By these, I create the environment where art and manufacturing can be felt close. I design this architecture from directionality and mobility that are phenomenological space composition that is lacked from modern architecture. In all places being dierent, all users are available to physical and mentalsituation.

repare the creation space through the art into Shimbashi and functionalize it as a local hub. Shimbashi and surrounding districts are already accumulating highintelligence industry, development is expected in the future. Then let art to be common as an act “to create” intervene and make environment to stimulate the creativity which is a required element. Then, establish the creation space as environment realizing “the value” of the thing. In there, it is environment widely open for local with the choice possibility that it is able to do from an experience of art, the manufacturing to high production work.

sual skyscrapers expand vertivcally as a symbol of CAPITALISM. Against it, El. Lissitzky pr o p o se d t h e “ Wo lk en b u g e l” w h ic h ex p a n d s horizontally as a symbol of SOCIALISM. Accordingly, I attempted to propose tertiary possibility as expanding obliquely. Therefore, I utilized sectional composition of St. Basil and the form of Tatlin's tower.

usic. It's the most important thing to celebrate mass. Composition by classic proportion and uncompleteness like baroque...what is the contemporary church architecture overcoming them? I reflect two vocabulary of the contemporary music to the structure. They are "glissando" and "cluster". The warped space that spread out endlessly, straight lines weave.
