“A Sentimental and Useful Memento” This set of four Wedgewood plates was commissioned in 1953 as a fundraiser for the Taft Alumni Association. The sepia images on the plates were designed by Clare Leighton, a well-known artist, engraver, and author who settled in the area near Watertown. Her images of HDT and CPT capture a quietness on campus. These plates were “sold without profit,” as the 1954 Taft Bulletin said, at $12 a set and were only available to alumni and friends of the school. —Beth Nolan Lovallo ’93, The Leslie D.
