TADAO ANDO
Tadao Ando a Japanese Architect has mentioned Carlo Scarpa as one of his main influences and his work reflects similar quality and ideas. Ando was heavily inspired by Scarpa’s use of light which he used to create a sense of depth and texture, his use of materials such as concrete which he used to create expressive forms which were both beautiful and functional. In addition to his use of light and materials Ando was also influenced by Scarpa’s approach to context, he often used existing structures and materials in his designs. He believed that architecture should be deeply connectedto itssurroundings.
Scarpa’s influence on Ando is very evident in his design of the “Chapel of the Light “ in Osaka, Japan.
