Wisp Ceramics

Wisp Ceramics are breathtakingly beautiful and decidedly modern, which isn’t an accident. Artist Kat West was born in the Philippines, grew up in Brooklyn, and now makes her home in Southern California. She first dabbled in ceramics in 2014 and credits the medium with her subsequent humbling, saying clay taught her patience, forgiveness, and most importantly how to move on. West reclaims, re-uses and re-purposes as much clay as possible and fires all of her work in a fully solar-powered kiln. She marries an old craft with conscious creation, making pieces that reflect her not only her style, but her values too. You can buy her pieces ($25-$170) directly through her website, wispceramics.com. West will also have a few select pieces for sale this season at Molly Wood Garden Design in Costa Mesa. | wispceramics.com

Deborah Allen

Local artist Deborah Allen uses an acrylic medium to achieve watercolor techniques that explore space, fluidity and light and make for euphoric pieces. This season, she is joining forces with iconic surf wear designer, Jeff Yokoyama, who formed Mucho Aloha, Maui & Sons, and many others. The two will collaborate on three special pieces Yokoyama is creating out of Allen’s drop cloth/painting tarp material. “Jeff has made my favorite pieces in my wardrobe,” says Allen, “I asked him for help finding the right design worthy of cutting into the fabric that had become so beautiful!” The colorful pieces of fabric adorned in all of Allen’s paint marks will be fashioned into wearable pieces, like the stunning ‘studio pullover.’ Pieces are ready to wear for all sorts of occasions and serve as unexpected addition to Allen’s artwork. Shop these unique styles and other items, like hand-painted bone china dinner plates ($60) on her website. allenartdesign.com
