Tabakalera hosts Itziar Okariz’s new exhibition, titled I Never Said Umbrella, and curated by Beatriz Herráez. This show is the third and final chapter of a project that started at Basel’s Kunsthaus Baselland in May 2017 and later passed through CA2M in Móstoles. This is a conversation between the artist and the curator, that took place while they were working on the exhibition set up. Beatriz Herráez: The exhibition brings together new productions and with previous works. How do these temporalities co-exist in the exhibition?
Itziar Okariz: In the approach to this presentation, I return to a series of images belonging to the recording of the film Sympathy for the Devil by Jean-Luc Godard (1968), featuring the Rolling Stones. They are references that come from different places, that have accompanied me for a long time, and I am interested in relating them to the exhibition so that everything acquires a form.

I Never Said Umbrella Itziar Okariz Sala de exposiciones Hasta el 3 de junio
Entre el 16 de febrero y el 3 de junio, la artista donostiarra Itziar Okariz ocupa con sus obras las salas de exposiciones de Tabakalera. Esta muestra que ha sido comisariada por Beatriz Herráez, es el tercer y último capítulo de un ciclo de exposiciones que previamente ha pasado por el CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo de Móstoles y por Kunsthaus Baselland de Basilea. La exposición, cuyo título nace de una interpretación errónea de la letra de una canción de David Bowie, plantea un recorrido por los principales ejes temáticos y formales que estructuran la obra de Okariz: la materialidad del lenguaje, la relación entre cuerpo y escultura, la repetición, la respiración y la voz son líneas que atraviesan esta muestra compuesta tanto de trabajos previos como de obras recientes.
