THE WATERBERG GOLF SAFARI

Overview This 7-night African Golf Tour visits some of the most scenic golf courses in the malaria-free Waterberg safari region of South Africa, including the Extreme 19th at Legends on your last day. While the golf is exceptional and exciting, you don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy it; there are many other activities like big game safaris, elephant encounters, horse rides, cable car trips and relaxing spas to keep non-golfing partners well entertained.

DORNBRACK TRAVEL

Itenerary Day 1 : Saturday Arrive at Lanseria Airport where you will be collected by a friendly face from Dornbrack Travel. Your cruising transport is a comfortable Mercedes Vito Minibus. We’ll take you directly to La Dolce Vita 4-star guest house overlooking the beautiful Hartbeespoort Dam. We chose La Dolce Vita because its name ‘the sweet life’ is exactly what you get when you stay here. You’ll sleep like a dream in their queen and king-size beds, especially after using your en-suite Jacuzzi bubble bath, which has magnificent views over the dam. Alternatively, you can opt to stay in a private villa with 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms in the nearby Pecanwood Golf Estate. We have kept your first day leisurely, allowing you to explore the picturesque dam and take a ride to the top of the ancient Magaliesberg Mountains on the new Harties Cableway. The views are out of this world! Return to the guest house for a leisurely afternoon sundowner cruise on the water followed by dinner at La Dolce Vita or the nearby owner-run Stef’s Table.

Day 2 : Sunday Wake refreshed ready for your first round on the outstandingly beautiful Pecanwood Golf Course. Jack Nicklaus is the name behind this world-class course, which skirts the banks of Hartbeespoort Dam and is named after a grove of Pecan nut trees.

You can spend the afternoon getting up close and personal with elephants...

After lunch at the golf course there’s a unique new thrill in store! You can spend the afternoon getting up close and personal with elephants at The Elephant Sanctuary. You don’t just walk with these animals – many rescued from zoos - you stroll trunk in hand. Numbers are limited for maximum elephant interaction and it’s a truly memorable, enriching and educational experience. Back at La Dolce Vita, if you didn’t do the sundowner cruise yesterday, here’s another chance – they’ll even take along the ski-boat for the sporty and adventurous!

THE WATERBERG GOLF SAFARI Day 3 : Monday This morning we depart for a short journey to Bela Bela and the Zebula Country Club & Spa – one of Africa’s premier bush, golf and spa destinations. Zebula commands a spectacular setting with undulating pristine bushveld and open grasslands in the shadow of the Waterberg Mountains. It’s punctuated with frequent dams and waterholes for the wide variety of game, birds and small wildlife. This affords several exciting options for a day on safari: Game Drive: The 3-hour game drive on Mabalingwe Nature Reserve hardly ever fails to deliver impressive sightings of rhino, elephant and buffalo. Cost +-R250 per person. Guided Golf Cart Safari: Get close to wildlife in environmentally-friendly golf carts with modified game viewing seats. You’ve never seen anything like it! Cost +-R350 per cart (3 passengers), or add some romance with a bottle of sparkling at +-R400 per cart (2 people). Horseback Safari: A horseback safari is often regarded as one of the most intimate and rewarding ways to view game. Ride through a 280 hectare private reserve on horses suitable for experienced riders or beginners. Cost +-R250 Bush Walks: Plant your feet on African soil and appreciate the sights, sounds and smells of the fauna and flora. The qualified ranger may test your knowledge of animal tracks, plants, bird calls and droppings. Two or three hour walks cost +-R180/R250. Quad Bike Safari: Take a thrilling ride on an automatic 2-man quad bike through the trails of the pristine bushveld, stopping for game viewing en-route. Cost +-R425 per quad. Elephant Encounter: Adventures with Elephants on the next door reserve is managed by the Hensman family, who’ve been privileged to live and work with elephants since 1988. They offer the thrill of hands-on interactions with these proud pachyderms, elephant-back safaris and even swims on the elephants. It’s a heart-warming experience. Cost +-R875 –R1475 Lion, Tiger, Cheetah and Other Animal Encounters: Opportunities for handson animal encounters are unmatched at Zebula. Meet Tarzan and Jane, the tame resident cheetahs and pet the lion and tiger cubs. There’s a snake and reptile park and crocodiles too. Let’s not forget The Spa. This serene space offers relaxing treatments and open air pampering with two large heated relaxation tubs. There’s also a small gym, indoor heated swimming pool, steam room, snack bar and nine private treatment rooms (including a double treatment room with private Jacuzzi - ideal for couples). Overnight on the Zebula Estate is in the beautiful thatched Zebula Bush Lodge close to the main clubhouse, or Waterberg Lodge in a quiet corner of the reserve with a Jacuzzi and rim-flow swimming pool.

DORNBRACK TRAVEL Day 4 : Tuesday You’ve been on safari, slept well and seen the Zebula golf course, now it’s time to play it! It’s a long leisurely course and 18-holes is expected to take about 4½ hours. After which it’s time to relax, or take to the 19th hole with a hitting bay 5000m in size and five target greens, plus four greens in one for various types of shots to be practiced. Overnight at Zebula.

Hot mineral springs attributed with healing powers... Day 5 : Wednesday This morning we head to Euphoria Golf Estate & Hydro in the Waterberg, with an 18-hole Championship Course, built to preserve the natural fauna and flora of the area. It was designed by number one female golfer Annika Sorenstam, and provides an unforgettable and challenging golfing experience. The property also has natural hot mineral springs attributed with healing powers - perhaps it will enhance your game! There is something unusual in store for the evening too; a world-first cablecar that links the golf clubhouse with the top of the mountain where you’ll find the informal Sundowner Deck Restaurant. It’s a one of a kind must-visit venue. Overnight accommodation is in luxurious Euphoria Bush Villas, with a decor theme of contemporary African chic incorporating sandstone from the surrounding mountains.

THE WATERBERG GOLF SAFARI Day 6 & 7 : Thursday & Friday If you haven’t already had enough highlights – it’s time for the biggest! Two days and nights at the Legends Golf & Safari Resort, with a round on their splendid Signature Course and their 10-hole Tribute Course and the ultimate win-a-million for a hole-inone on the Extreme 19th! No hole has captured the imagination as much as The Extreme 19th at Legends. It’s only accessible by helicopter as the tee is high up on Hanglip Mountain, played onto a green in the shape of Africa 430 metres below. Golfing superstars and world celebrities have been on TV pitting their skill and luck at this hole, but no-one has yet managed the hole in one. There’s always the chance that it could be you! If not, you can claim to have played the most extreme par 3 on the planet! Legends is one of the most environmentally sensitive golf estates in Africa, minimising the impact of development on the natural environment and preserving pristine bushland. It is situated in the Entabeni Safari Conservancy, so there are a number of additional activities available: t #JH HBNF ESJWFT JO UIF &OUBCFOJ 4BGBSJ $POTFSWBODZ t #BMMPPO USJQT XJUI #JMM )BSSPQ T 0SJHJOBM #BMMPPO 4BGBSJT t 4QB MPDBUFE PO UPQ PG )BOHMJQ .PVOUBJO t 4XJNNJOH QPPMT t &OEBOHFSFE 8JMEMJGF $FOUSF BOE 1FEJ $VMUVSBM $FOUSF t #VTI 8BMLT t )PSTF SJEFT You’ll sleep well after the exciting golf, safari activities and perhaps a cultural dance show after a dinner in the boma.
