Geometry is governed by very specific rules. However, nature, especially humans, are messy. But that’s alright because it’s the disorder that adds excitement to the world and possibilities for growth. Sometimes, in the middle of all the chaos, if we look hard enough we might find some order after all.
Hello! I’m a student pursuing my Bachelors in Architecture. I chose to study the subject as it combined my interests in art, science, sociology and ecology. I’m glad I did so, because studying Architecture completely changed the way I see the world. I am a firm believer in the wisdom of the vernacular and am fascinated by how effortlessly sustainable it is. I am an inherently curious person, with a love for learning and an interest in just about everything from human psychology to the nature of reality.

Centre for Learning Sustainability || Vernacular || Climate Change
Introduction: Vernacular architecture can be described as architecture by the people, for the people and of the people. It emerged as a solution to local problems using local materials. The materials were renewable, and nothing had to be imported or manufactured. Vernacular architecture is effortlessly sustainable. Sustainability is the avoidance of depletion of natural resources in order to maintain ecological balance. With the current situation of population explosion, we are using resources at a rate faster than ever. This usage is causing climate change. Hence there is a need for us to change the way we build. Our structures need to be built of sustainable materials and must function in a sustainable way as well. Along with being environmentally sustainable, buildings must be socially sustainable as well. Inspired by the legacy of Mah Laqa Bai Chanda, the program is designed for the betterment of the residents of Moula Ali. It is informed by the census data of Moula Ali, which highlights a stark difference between the literacy and employment rates in men and women. Program:
Working - Learning Hybrid space Women are provided with an opportunity to learn income generating skills such as incense making, pickle making, candle making etc..They can simultaneously learn basic math and literacy skills at the same place. Hence a flexible working learning space is required. Computer skills and soft skills are a necessity for today’s youth. Hence a space where the youth of the neighbourhood can learn these skills would be beneficial to the community. Anganvadi There is an Anganvadi (day-care/ pre-school) close to the site. However, it does not follow government prescribed norms and does not even have a playground. Hence, an Anganvadi is accommodated for in the design. This will also serve as a space where women can drop their children, while they work. Library Hyderabad has a rich literary history and Chanda Bai herself worked extensively in the fields of art and literature. Hence a library housing the rare books of Hyderabad is introduced. This will serve as a nice addition to the neighbourhood, but also will help in spreading awareness about Hyderabad’s rich culture and heritage.
Moula Ali Dargah
Moula Ali Hill
Chanda Ka Bagh
What remains of a dance after the Performance is done? Located right next to the site is the tomb complex of Mah Laqa Bai Chanda. She was a courtesan during the reign of the Nizams. Acclaimed for her dance, she also was gifted with a talent for statecraft. Given the position of a noblewoman, she was often approached for advice regarding matters of the state. She used her position to work towards the education and empowerment of the girl child by setting up numerous dance institutes for girls in the city. The design attempts to carry on her legacy through the program, that is designed for the residents of Moula Ali.
The Site
10
The site is located on the foothills of historic Moula Ali Hill. The neighbourhood gets its name from the Moula Ali Dargah built by Sultan Ibrahim Qutub Shah. The presence of this important Dargah led to the construction of resthouses, burials and tomb complexes in the area, during the reign of the Qutub Shahi’s.

Climate For a building to function in a sustainable manner, it must be designed as a response to the climate. This reduces dependence on electricity for heating or cooling.

The site is located in a mainly residential area, the program is designed for the residents of Moula Ali.
g Buildings
2. Footprint follows climate
Views into and out of the site.
Solar heat gain can be minimised by minimising the area of the walls facing directly East and directly West. This is achieved by obliquely chopping the rectangular spaces as shown.
13
3. Form follows climate A vaulted system was chosen for the roofing, as it helps keeps the interior spaces cool. Vaults do so because one side of the vault if always shaded through out the day, except during noons. Given the unique geometry of the foot print, a system was designed by fragmenting the vault in order the roof the interior space.
Space
The program is designed in order to create spaces where the women of Moula Ali can obtain basic education, while also creating employment opportunities for them. This requires for a learning-working hybrid space. While the main learning spaces (orange) are enclosed, the working spaces (blue) are flexible and semi-enclosed. The working spaces wrap around the learning spaces and create the hybrid.
Material
Serial Vision
Stone and CSEB blocks were chosen to be the main materials. Stone, because it is easily available close to site, and its usage would reduce the total embodied energy of the project. CSEB blocks, because they are also available near the site. The NIRD in Hyderabad is training people from rural area on hoe to produce and work with CSEB blocks. While being a sustainable material, their usage would lead to creation of employment for these people as well.
Given the long nature of the site, the journey from one end to another becomes important. Borrowing from Gordan Cullen’s concept of Serial vision: To walk from one end of the plan to another, at a uniform pace, will provide a sequence of revelations which are suggested in the serial drawings. The even progress of travel is illuminated by a series of sudden contrasts and so an impact is made on the eye. 15

Oasis
Music Innovation and Education Music || Silence || Geometry
Introduction:
The urban world is always on the move. It is fast paced and does not have the time to wait for anyone. We, as a species have adapted to this lifestyle. We are so used to being in a rush and addicted to stimuli, that silence has become scary now. But I believe that silence is necessary. It allows one to clean their thoughts and think deeply on matters. Relaxing and slowing down are important for our well-being. However, often times we get so lost in noise, we forget what silence feels like. The site for the project is located right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. It is surrounded by offices, restaurants, malls, the metro etc.. Hence, it makes for the perfect place to create an oasis that cuts the noise out. The project explores music as an escape, as well as provides artists with a space where they can innovate and also educate people about their art. This is especially important in today’s world because it is art that makes life more manageable, tolerable and enjoyable.
The design is inspired from the nature of music. I believe it is as much a science as it is an art. And so is geometry. The design attempts to use geometric principles to create spaces for introspection and spaces that inspire.

The Site
The site is located close to the JP Nagar metro station. It is surrounded by IT offices and malls. The aim was to create an oasis in the midst of the concrete jungle that surrounds it.
The Users The area is quite bustling. It is frequented not just by office goers, but also by artists. Located close to site is an artists hostel. By creating space for art, it would be used not just by the artists but also by the office goers during their after-hours. A space for music would be apt for the location, as it would provide relief from the noise of the city.
28
Spaces are experienced better when walked around objects, rather than straight through.
Opportunities for views into the space from outside are designed, to create curiosity.

The Spirit Of One: A secular temple
Secularism || Spiritualism || Realisation
Introduction: Any mature and enlightened discussion of Spirituality – irrespective of a specific religion’s beliefs – would lead one to the following beliefs: ◆ Spirituality lies in recognizing the Unitary Whole, that manifested all that is visible and beyond. ◆ Spirituality lies in recognizing there are as many paths to Oneness as there are people. ◆ Spiritual growth (i.e. progressing from gross to subtle) is helped by practice as per the individual’s maturity or capacity, and relevance to the times. “The Spirit of ONE” belief system subscribes to all of the above beliefs. It is not a typical religion in the sense that no single human being or book or belief is deemed the ONLY Truth – not even its own. Hence, it recognizes and respects all extant and past religions as valid and efficacious paths to fostering Spirituality. “The Spirit of ONE” Temple attempts to put the above beliefs in concrete form, as listed below: ◆ A pre-requisite for Spirituality is Life itself. And, Life – as we know it – sprang forth from Water. As a reflection of this fact, the Temple is housed in a body of water.
◆ Truth can seem manifold and that is reflected in the various “petals” of the Temple. The site itself is surrounded by various houses of worship (mosques, temples, churches, etc.) of various religions. ◆ Though relative Truths can seem manifold, all mature thought would lead one to the inescapable and undeniable reality that WE ARE ONE. And this is reflected in the one central flame (or, Light of Knowledge) in the central Meditation Space. ◆ At night this is more dramatically brought out by the light, that shines through from underneath the “petals” of the temple. The intent is – There is one Unity underlying all religions.
Shadows cast by the main structure in the interior.
39
Geometry in nature is taken as an inspiration. Repeating patterns found in naturally occurring fractals used to generate form.
The site is located off the coast of Mumbai, in the Marina Bay. This location was chosen because Mumbai is a diverse population and the site is in proximity to a large number of religious places of worship.
Location of the Temple shown on site. The Temple’s scale is monumental to impress upon humans the immenseness of creation. The structure is comprised of interrelated parts that reflect the interrelations present in creation.

Colouring the Lines: A Return to Authenticity Return toOutside Authenticity T.N.Anjali, 1RW17AT098
Key Words: Systems, Order, Chaos, Exploration, Rejuvenation, Authenticity, Fulfillment Abstract: This thesis explores the contradiction of order and chaos that is human existence. The purpose of this exploration was to discover an architecture that encourages and empowers people to break free from the various Systems that bind us by and pursue a more fulfilling life by becoming more authentic versions of oneself. WHY ? I have always been disenchanted by our Education system. Even during childhood I felt it was an edifice of achievement and attainment in a very strait-jacketed scope and did not empower or facilitate true exploration and growth. I could see – especially in my case – exposure to the prevalent Education system dimmed the fire of curiosity, learning and all-round growth, in favor of the mad race of marks. Play for the purpose of Play seemed to be increasingly getting considered expendable. I saw children lose their free spirit. What started as an investigation into how the Education System shaped / impacted me, led me onto an investigation into Systems in general (systems of governance, economy, religion etc.), and how these Systems play a role in how we inadvertently mold ourselves into less authentic versions of our younger selves as we grow up. At the same time, I do recognize the merits of having Systems in place. Systems provide structure and create order. They minimize the innumerable uncertainties and dangers involved in existing and functioning in the world. While they do create a framework, Systems can become constrictive when they inhibit the exploration that comes out of an absence of a framework, or, chaos. While as humans, we love simplifying and automating various aspects of our lives by building complicated Systems and frameworks, I believe that exploration free from the binds of these Systems is essential for the attainment of true fulfillment. Hence refer to human existence as a contradiction of order and chaos. WHAT ? In a world that is constantly on the move, we hardly have the time to pause, question and think. Being a part of the System leaves us with little to no time for self-reflection and exploration of our thoughts and ideas. This exploration is essential for one to become more authentic or in other words, free from the influence of Systems. Exploration

Inspired by the works of Gaudi, this is an attempt to design a pavilion using the principles of catenary curves and inverted hanging chains. The model is simulated using Kangaroo physics simulator in Grasshopper. Each arch is an inverted catenary curve.
Here are a few pictures of an interactive installation made using Grasshopper and Arduino. It consists of a number of light sensors and mechanical butterflies. The butterflies flap their wing, when a light is shone at the sensors.

As part of an Artificial Intelligence course I had taken up, we had to teach a computer how to play tic-tac-toe. I used Python programming language to create an intelligent system that analyses the possible outcomes of a certain move and decides on its next move. It is impossible to beat this program.
Point3d p0 = new Point3d(l / (2 * (Math.Cos(Math.PI * (s - 2) / (2 * s)))), 0, 0); points.Add(p0); for (var i = 0; i < s-1; i++) { Point3d p1 = new Point3d (p0); p1.Transform(Transform.Rotation(2 * (i + 1) * (Math.PI * (s - 2)) / ((s - 2) * s),new Vector3d(0,0,1), new Point3d(0,0,0))); points.Add(p1); } VerticesOut = points; for (var i = 0; i < s; i++) { if (i != s - 1) { LineCurve pl = new LineCurve(points[i], points[i + 1]); segments.Add(pl); } else { LineCurve pl = new LineCurve(points[i], points[0]); segments.Add(pl); } } for (var i = 0; i < iter; i++)
I designed a program that generates snowflakes based on Koch’s Algorithm. C# was used to design this as a plugin for Grasshopper.
