Reflections... The village of St. Brieux has a rich francophone heritage as it was settled by approximately forty families of Bretons from St-Brieuc, France. In 1904 a group of settlers led by Father Le Floch’h, left St-Malo (the same port from which Jacques Cartier sailed) on April 1, sailed to Halifax, then journeyed west to Prince Albert, and on May 23rd, pitched camp at Fr. Paul Le Floc’h’s homestead. The settlers erected a cross honoring Jacques Cartier on the eastern shore of Lake Lenore and months later, applied for a post office and named it and their parish St. Brieux, in honor of their home community in France. Today, St. Brieux is internationally known through their home town boy. Frank Bourgault, developed a small shop in 1973 and began manufacturing rock pickers, in later years, added air seeders and today manufactures a large line of farm machinery products used throughout all corners of the world, under the name of Bourgault Industries.

Perrot Family also had a small Hungarian community of which the Laczko’s were a part of and their daughter Rosemarie, who was the eldest of five, met and married John Perrot who was also the eldest of five in his respective family. Soon after the wedding, they built a home on a bare piece of ground, (the sale site) and then proceeded to build, “their way in life”, in the agricultural community of St. Brieux. Although Naicam, Saskatchewan, is their mailing address (several miles to the east), St. Brieux is their home community. John and Rosemarie never worked off farm, but chose to build a farmstead and develop a large scale, successful, seed stock breeding operation.

Not unlike any other young couple trying to make a living in a farming community, John and Rosemarie relied on mixed farming to maintain their 2005 SCA Breeder Of The Year livelihood. On the suggestion of Rosemarie’s father (that their growing family could use a milk In the purebred livestock industry, St. Brieux, cow), John traveled south to Saskatchewan is home to breeders who have Middle Lake and came home made an impact on improving seed stock; Emil with four heifers – buckskin SCA Champion Pair Of Bulls Creurer and son, Roger, registered Polled Hereford heifers (rather than a milk cow) breeders, produced a bull, Charme Nordern 10G, which and the start of Perrot beef operation.
