Gilchrist Farms & Friends "In It To Win It" 8th Annual Production Sale

Page 1

It is always an exciting time of year as the nights cool down and the trees begin to change colour. Not only is it a time of year where nature signals to the world a change in season but it also signals to cattlemen and women that it is time to wean calves and prepare for the winter. It’s a time where we look back at the breeding decisions we made the previous year to analyze what worked well and what needs adjusted. For our family, Thanksgiving weekend, for the past 23 years has been about spending it with family at a cattle auction. It started when I was just 10 years old and my first year in 4-H selling my first calf. Since then Thanksgiving weekend has evolved into an even larger Angus family where we have been fortunate to spend it at the In It To Win It event on our home farm just north of Lucknow. We are excited for yet another Thanksgiving weekend and would like to invite you to spend it just north of Lucknow as we host the 8th Annual GF and Friends In It To Win It Angus Production Sale. From the Desk at T Bar... Welcome to the 8th Annual “In It To Win It” Sale. It’s become tradition to gather on the Thanksgiving Saturday at Gilchrist Farms to obtain superior Angus genetics from a solid core of seedstock producers. This year’s offering is powerful, unique, fresh and in popular demand. The history behind this sale is rich in successful stories. Just think of the past graduates that have been through this very ring in the past eight years. The Evening Tinges , the start of the famed Bardettas, the Sandys , the Ritas and the numerous division and class winners that carried on through to the Royal and Agribition. These cattle are presented by competitive people that strive to produce the very best possible. As you study through this catalogue there are many options in which will fast track your program ahead quickly...cattle that you will hear more of in the near future and that will become influential within the industry. The event is kicked off by a very interesting upcoming promising herd sire that truly has all the credentials one could ever desire. Please make plans to join us in Lucknow, Ontario for a fun filled event with some fine hospitality. The Gilchrist sale facility is second to none and worth the drive to see. If for some reason you can’t make it please don’t hesitate to call any of us at T Bar and we will gladly assist you in any way possible. See you in the grass runs at GF! Ben Wright Sales Staff...

She has a balanced, correct and functional udder, depth of rib combined with the feminine look that we strive for and has out produced herself with each calf that she has raised. Here is a recipient carrying a maternal pregnancy to GF Lucknow 905G. For those who follow EPDs, this pregnancy will be one of, if not, the highest YW born calves in 2020 and arguably the largest spread from low birth to high growth with balanced, herd improving carcass traits for the next calendar year as well. What a great opportunity to be part of an impressive genetic opportunity that combines the most elite genetics in the breed from a highly marketable pedigree. Implanted April 18, 2019.

Our daughter, Peyton, loves going to the barn and helping with chores and working on cattle. So much so, that she claims all of them as her own but this one, Miss Morison, is her calf that she has adored and wanted to work on the most. She is powerful and explosive in her muscle pattern yet angular and feminine. Selling on choice with her dam, Peyton will be either expanding her breeding program by retaining this female or learning a lesson on finances.

This is because we always sell some females with choice of the cow or the heifer calf and last year Bella Davidson absolutely fell in love with her heifer calf. Rita has done it again, this year bringing back again one of our best heifers. Rita 166A is a daughter of a maternal sibling to GF Rita 66Z, who was a $23,500 high seller to Nielson Land & Cattle. Stout, easy fleshing and added frame is what this beast brings to the table. She’s raised some pretty great calves for us to date, the most memorable is the 1450 lb. steer who Peyton showed last year with ease. He went on to be Class Champion and demanded the highest dollar at sale time. AI bred to S A V President 6847 on April 4, 2019.

This is a female we will be genuinely sad to part with. She has been one of the anchors of our show string this year, capturing Heifer Calf Champion at Beachburg Fair and class winner in Peterborough. Her picture speaks for her in terms of how clean she is in her lines, her overall muscle expression and that beautiful hind leg. What you can’t see is just how impressive this female is when you get behind her. She’s stout with a wide top and a big hip. Anyone looking for a junior project to be highly competitive take a long look at her, but don’t overlook her! Registered for the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. P.S.
