Zero Waste Picnic Lunch- Sustainability Week

‘Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023’ not only provided students with the opportunity to reflect on what they already know and do regarding sustainability across the curriculum in school, but also to participate in activities that champion this very worthy cause!

We learned that ‘Sustainability’ is about the small changes we can make to look after the planet One activity that made an impact was the ‘Zero Waste Picnic’. The student council helped to raise awareness about the small changes that we can make to our packed lunches that make would make a difference.

Students were encouraged to pack their own lunches for this event keeping in mind the following three points of action:

Only pack what you need so that nothing is wasted

Use reusable boxes when possible

Buy locally grown food to minimize the impact of transporting food from around the world

We did not quite make ‘Zero’ waste this time, but we made a big step in the right direction. A big thank you to everyone that supported this worthy effort!
