03 product design Create a light source with the understanding of materials and constructing technique. The design inspiration comes from the reflection between two mirrors. The prototype product is a 11” x 11” x 2” box made of 1/8” MDF and two sheets of 8” x 8” plexiglass applied with mirror reflective film. Recycled LED lights are concealed behind a frame of opaque plexiglass inside the box. When the light is off, the box is simply work as a mirror. When the light is on, it creates an optical illusion as if the depth of space extent beyond the box. The light box has demonstrated the idea of containing a larger space than the container itself can contain, provoke one’s question about the qualitative of space.
