LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Hello Friends! We have had an amazing semester so far of service, leadership, and fellowship! In September alone, we collectively completed over 260 hours of service! That is amazing. You all should be so proud of what you have accomplished. In this issue of the newsletter, we will meet our new committee chairs, learn about our ongoing fundraiser, and much more! Thank you to everyone who contributed to the newsletter, and please keep your submissions coming. It is great to see other members’ perspective on our events and other things having to do with our club! I hope you all have an amazing month full of service, leadership, and fellowship! Yours in Service, Sydney Yaeger Bulletin Editor 2015-2016

Letter from the President Hello, It has been another great month of service with you all! From Ben's Bells to Fall Rally we have helped so many people and made a lot of new friendships. I am really proud to see people taking opportunities like Fall Rally to make new friends and learn more about our organization. I'm also excited to see everyone's enthusiasm at meetings. We have so many dedicated members and I could not be happier to spend time with each and every one of you and get to know you all better. Thank you for being such an awesome group. It's been a really special semester and while school life is always crazy it is nice to have a group like this to come to and de-stress with every week. You all rock! Yours in service, Michael Zimmerman

Dues, Deadlines, and What They Mean for You By Courtney Cummins

Hey Fam <3 I just wanted to give you guys some insight about paying dues! Paying dues for any club on campus is a norm, but CKI dues offer more than just an official membership into the Kiwanis family. Dues give you insurance while attending club events, opportunities for grants and scholarships, the chance to attend district and international Kiwanis affiliated events, and the prospect of creating lifelong friendships and connections. As someone who has been a member of the Kiwanis family since 2009, I can say with certainty that being a paid member has given me so many unique opportunities to succeed and meet passionate people over the past 6 years. As a member, treasurer, and overall fan of CKI, I highly recommend paying dues! If you didn't have the opportunity to pay dues and decide later that you would like to become a paid member, please come see me! We can have you pay dues after the deadline and ensure that you can go to events. The only difference about paying later is that you might not get the cool t-shirts/freebies that members who paid on time will receive, and we have to pay your dues and wait a processing period before you can attend service events. Hope to see y'all (and your dues) at events and meetings!

Meet Our New Committee Chairs! Social Chair: Emma Goldblatt

Major: Undeclared Why she got involved in CKI: I got involved in CKI because I was a part of Key Club in high school, and I love doing community service. Goals in CKI: My goals are to get leadership experience, meet new friends, and help the community. What makes her smile: Cute animals and my nephews. What she does in her free time: In my free time I like to hang out with friends, discover new music, and take pictures. Her most embarrassing moment: My most embarrassing moment is too embarrassing to write down (sorry!) haha.

K-Family Chair: Kim Biador

Major: Pre-Physiology Why she got involved in CKI: To continue my involvement with the Kiwanis Family. Goals in CKI: To make lifelong friends and to have a second family. What makes her smile: Seeing Nathan laugh or smile makes me happy. What she does in her free time: Play the piano and learn new songs. Most embarrassing moment: I’m a pretty embarrassing person, so I don’t really get embarrassed anymore. People get embarrassed for me haha.

Service Chair: Nixon Potteiger

Major: Math with an emphasis in Secondary Education. Why he got involved in CKI: I got involved with CKI because I was a member of Key Club and I wanted to continue helping the community in college. Goals in CKI: My goals in CKI are to bring smiles to as many faces as possible, be as helpful as I can, and understand more about the lives of others. What makes him smile: A pun and a funny face make me smile What he does in his free time: In my free time, I like to watch sports, play video games with my friends, and play sports. Most embarrassing moment: My most embarrassing moment would be when I asked out a girl, was told yes (essentially but I didn’t realize it), and tripped when I left the building, which the girl could see if she looked out the window.

Fundraising Chair: Karen Ayala

Major: Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (minoring in Psychology and Spanish) Why she got involved in CKI: I got involved with CKI because I enjoy helping the community and I knew that this was a pretty tight-knit club that was both fun and provided services for those in need. It just seemed like a perfect match. Goals in CKI: My main goal for CKI is just to make a difference in my community. I want to help those who need it and if I can provide my service and have fun with it at the same time, then I'm all in. What makes her smile: I know this may sound like such a basic answer, but making other people happy makes me smile. When everyone around me is laughing and having an amazing time, then it makes my day so much better. Most embarrassing moment: In high school I was at a football game with some friends and it was pretty chilly outside. So, I was wearing an over-sized sweater. Anyway, so I'm talking to my friends up in the bleachers and my arm is casually on the stair-rail. And so some random guy is walking up the stairs of the bleachers and his arm is trailing up the stair banister-rail thing, and as he's passing me, his hand somehow goes up my sleeve. His hand just slides right up to my elbow before getting stuck, and that's when he notices. We both just froze and it was the most awkward 5 seconds of my life. Then, while making direct eye contact with me, he just pulls his hand out of my sleeve and walks away.

Member of the Month: Alexys Manring! Congratulations to our Member of the Month for September: Alexys Manring! Alexys attended many events and always had a fantastic attitude. The officers agreed that her positive contribution to service events deserved this recognition!
