Congratulations to our professionals in Northern Arizona for continuing the positive trend within the golf industry in Arizona over the last few months. It was nice to hear that play was slightly up over last year and participation at the member clubs was relatively strong as well. Here in the desert regions, golfers and professionals alike experienced one of the hottest and driest summers in the last 100 years. While the stalwarts continued to play, it was a tough environment in which to try and grow the game! While there is positive news from the CVB’s about travel forecasts being up for the coming season here, there is also serious news about a course closure in Tucson (Fred Enke) and a transition in Glendale (Glen Lakes temporarily closed). It is clear that the industry is continuing to make adjustments through this period of time. On the playing side the SWSPGA Section PNC held at Pinnacle Peak had a great deal of excitement and drama as 10 players earned a spot in next year’s PNC to be played in Sunriver, Oregon. Scott Frisch came from behind and was able to post a final round 66 to push him to 9 under par for the event, which turned out to be good enough for the win. Scott finished his round well ahead of the leaders and was a little dejected at scoring as he had made a bogey on the 17th hole and par on the reachable par 5 18th. In the end, it turned out his 9 under par score was good enough to stay ahead of the field and earn the victory. Other players qualifying for the PNC included runners up Michael Hopper and Craig Hocknull as well as Brandon Smith, Chris Hantla, Will Frantz, Jon Stanley, Jeff Yurkiewicz, Jeff Thomas and Ken Carpenter. In addition, Brett Upper(Past Champion) and Marty Jertson (Top 20 Finish in 2012) are also eligible to participate by virtue of their past finishes in this event. Finally, I hope you will also take note of the “TEE TO GREEN” opportunity outlined in this update. If you have anything unique or new at your club---let the world know. Photos are always a plus; make yourself a celebrity in your own community. For now best of luck to the start of the season for our desert profess sionals and best of luck to our northern professionals as they get ready for a little down time this fall!
Respectfully, Curt Hudek, PGA

Pepsi—National Pricing and More As many of you are aware Pepsi is a National Sponsor for the PGA of America. What many of you may not be aware of is what comes along with that at the local level… and now …the local benefits are better than ever! Currently less than 20 facilities in the SWSPGA are “linked” the National Account Program. What you and your facility may be missing out on if you are not linked to this program: - NEW National Account Pricing (Just improved again!) - Unlimited Customer Service Calls (Many contracts only offer 1 or 2 service calls) - Now includes bottle and can program with “rebates” - Free Equipment (Requires Minimum Usage) - Golf Retirement Plus Benefits Not sure if you are linked to this program? Contact Chris.Hansen@pepsico.com by email or by phone at (602)437-7028 Chris would like to ensure that all facilities are ‘getting” the appropriate National Account pricing and he is offering quite an incentive package for facilities that are interested in converting to Pepsi. Give him a call for more details.
