Page 2 A special thanks to the nearly 400 professionals in attendance at the SWSPGA Annual meeting last week. It was a special occasion to see SWSPGA member and past PGA of America President Brian Whitcomb named as the Anser Award winner. In addition, Greg Leicht was presented with the Conrad Rehling Award for his efforts in working with Special Olympics over the past eight years.

In addition to the magnitude of the audience there was a strong contingent of past presidents in attendance including Ralph Bernhisel who has recently returned to the SWSPGA. With the significant number of short term booking options that are available to the consumer the SWSPGA has been working its way through the impact of the increased competition to the golf pass. Like much of the golf industry the Section has made staffing adjustments and have reviewed how we are conducting business. As reported there has also been closure to the long term taxability issues of the pass and we look forward to working our way forward from this point. There were clearly individuals willing to step up and assist with the challenge as there were seven candidates for the four board position openings. A special thanks for those who participated in the process and congratulations to Drew Reid of Reid West Golf Academies who was newly elected to the Board of Directors as well as Terry Carlson of The Estancia Club, Jamey Lewis of Wickenberg Country Club and Jay Larsheid of Longbow Golf Club who were all re-elected to second terms. Thanks too to those individuals who added interest to the event including John McGeary of the Fall Expo, Jeff Reich and the “spokespersons for the Junior Golf Association of Arizona and Hugh Smith of the First Tee of Phoenix. The Club Car Pro-Pro event following the meeting was dominated by those venturing to Talking Stick from the South as can be seen In the enclosed results. Best of luck to our members in the North, we hope that your upcoming season is a great one.
