SIMON JAQUEMET * 1978 in Zurich. Simon Jaquemet studied film at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). His award-winning first feature CHRIEG, which was developed at the Torino Film Lab, was selected for numerous international festivals such as San Sebastian, Sao Paulo and Karlovy Vary. It was awarded at the Max Ophüls Festival and at the Marrakech International Film Festival. THE INNOCENT is Jaquemet’s second feature film and will compete in the Official Selection of the San Sebastian IFF right after TIFF.

JEAN-LUC GODARD * 1930 in Paris. Jean-Luc Godard is one of the founding members and central figures of the French New Wave movement of the 1960s. His films enjoy international acclaim and have influenced generations of filmmakers. Godard presented more than 20 films in Cannes. His first film BREATHLESS (1959) was considered a masterpiece of the Nouvelle Vague, ADIEU AU LANGUAGE (2014) screened in Competition in Cannes and received the Jury Prize, THE IMAGE BOOK was awarded with the Special Palme d’Or.

It’s New Year’s Eve in 1999, and Russia is about to undergo a historic transformation. President Boris Yeltsin, aging and weak, steps down and appoints a little-known figure, Vladimir Putin, to replace him. Celebrated filmmaker Vitaly Mansky was there to capture the transition. Now, for the first time ever, he dips into his archives for a rare glimpse at the young Putin and the vast political machine that brought him to power.

VITALY MANSKY *1963 in Lviv. Vitaly Mansky studied film at VGIK, All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography and became one of the most prominent contemporary Russian documentary filmmakers. His films such as UNDER THE SUN (2015) or PRIVATE CHRONICLES MONOLOGUE (1999) were screened at festivals worldwide and won several awards. Mansky is also the founder and director of Artdocfest. PUTIN’S WITNESSES premiered at the KVIFF 2018 and was awarded with the Grand Prix for Best Documentary.

WANG BING * 1967 in China. Wang Bing studied photography at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang and cinematography at Beijing Film Academy. Wang belongs to China’s most important documentary filmmakers and is known for THE DITCH (2010), selected for the Mostra Internazionale in Venice, THREE SISTERS (2012), screened and awarded in Venice and ’TIL MADNESS DO US PART (2013), programmed in Venice, Toronto and Rotterdam. MR. FANG (2017) won the Golden Leopard in Locarno.

In Gansu Province, northwest China, lie the remains of countless prisoners abandoned in the Gobi Desert sixty years ago. Designated as ultra-rightists in the Communist Party’s Anti-Rightist campaign of 1957, they starved to death in the Jiabiangou and Mingshui reeducation camps. The film invites us to meet the survivors of the camps to find out firsthand who these people were, the hardships they were forced to endure and what became their destiny.

She works as assistant teacher at the University of Geneva and as a programmer at Visions du Réel. Her short film PUEBLO (2015) competed at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes, THE ENTRAILS (2016) at the Locarno Festival. THOSE WHO DESIRE was awarded with the Pardino d’oro at the Locarno Festival 2018 and will screen at the San Sebastian International Film Festival (Zabaltegi-Tabakalera).

CORINA SCHWINGRUBER ILIĆ * 1981. Corina Schwingruber Ilić studied at the University of Arts in Belgrade and the Lucerne School of Art and Design. She has shot a number of short docs together with Nikola Ilić, many of which have been screened at international festivals and honoured with awards, for example JUST ANOTHER DAY IN EGYPT (2015) or KOD ĆOŠKA (2013). Her shorts BAGGERN (2011) and IN THE WOODS (2017) became award-winning festival hits.

A workout on the sun deck, a conga line in the dining hall, a photo shoot with the captain, or a beauty contest for all ages: fun around-the-clock is guaranteed on a cruise, while you float along with your hotel room. The sea-faring holiday fortresses have come into vogue and business is booming. In the towering ship’s wake, we are left behind with a hoard of digital memories and a cloud of exhaust fumes on the horizon.

THOMAS IMBACH *1962 in Lucerne. With WELL DONE (1994) and GHETTO (1997) Imbach has won numerous awards. He established his trademark style based on a combination of cinema-verité camera-work and fast paced computercontrolled editing. His fiction films HAPPINESS IS A WARM GUN (2001), LENZ (2006), I WAS A SWISS BANKER (2007) and DAY IS DONE (2011) all premiered at the Berlinale. His first English-language film MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS premiered in Locarno and was selected for TIFF 2013.

The love Lena (16) feels for brother Noah is more than sisterly love. To distract herself, she encourages Noah’s friend Enis. But she is so obsessed with her brother that she cannot curb her feelings. She starts daydreaming, living more in a fantasy world than in real life. She finally brings herself to confess to Noah. BETTINA OBERLI * 1972 in Interlaken. Bettina Oberli studied Film at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and is known for her awardwinning first feature NORTH WIND (2004), which premiered in San Sebastian and her second feature LATE BLOOMERS (2006), which became a huge box office hit in Switzerland and was selected for several international film festivals such as Shanghai and Palm Springs. WITH THE WIND premiered at the Locarno Festival and was honoured with the Variety Piazza Grande Award.

An isolated farm in a remote part of the Jura region: this is where Pauline and Alex are living in complete self-sufficient harmony with nature. Their life project is sealed by their love, their ideals and their work. The couple is now ready to take the step towards total independence, and start producing their own electricity. The arrival of Samuel, who comes to install a wind turbine, deeply troubles Pauline, upsetting their relationship and their values.

Shot in Grand Teton National Park, this immersive essay film draws together the distinct sensibilities of filmmakers Emma Davie and Peter Mettler and philosopher David Abram to encounter the spaces where humans and animals meet. We pique our senses to witness the so-called natural world – which in turn witnesses us.

Hot summer has come to Pueblo Textil, a tiny village in the Cuban countryside. Leonel (9) and Antuán (13), are about to spend the holidays by themselves. The young boys have been friends their entire though short lives but this summer may be the last they spend together. As Cuba is going through a historical and transitional period, the two boys also come to a crossroad.

SAMIR * 1955 in Baghdad, raised in Switzerland. Samir belongs to Switzerland’s most acclaimed filmmakers. He cofounded the production company Dschoint Ventschr in 1994 and has been directing and producing both fiction and documentary films. After his renowned documentaries BABYLON 2 (1993), FORGET BAGHDAD (2002) and the award winning IRAQI ODYSSEY (2014), which premiered at TIFF and was selected for Berlinale Panorama 2015, Samir returns with a fiction film set among Iraqi exiles in London.

Taufiq, an old failed writer, Amal, a wife in hiding, and Muhanad, a clandestine gay IT-specialist all meet at Abu Nawas, a cosy café and popular hangout for Iraqi exiles in London. Instigated by the preacher of a Salafist mosque, the writer’s nephew Nasseer, a fanatic religious youth, attacks his uncle and turns everyone’s life upside down.

NIKLAUS HILBER * 1970 in Fribourg. Niklaus Hilber studied directing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and screenwriting at the AFI in Los Angeles. His last film AMATEUR TEENS (2015) received the Audience Award at the Zurich Film Festival and was awarded with the Zurich Film Prize 2015. It also screened in competition at the 19�� Tallin Black Nights Film Festival as well as at Cinema Jove in Valencia.

The subsidies are granted according to the “Guidelines for Distribution Support of Swiss films in non-European countries”. Applications must be submitted by the distributor via the Swiss producer.
