IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE FUTURE written & directed by Laurence Favre 30

Archival footage of a weekend among friends at the beach intertwines with the testimony about memories that are fading away: the rock band, the pre-sixties flowerpower movement, a feeling of carefreeness and freedom … it was the 1950s in the United States of America. The now aged protagonists share their memories and thoughts about a remote youth, that some still can feel. An essay on memory and the (un-)truth of images. Water and wind mold a fragile landscape through which the reflection of a lone old man slowly fades away. An island full of wild olive trees emerges on the waters that seem to have flooded everything. On his way to the island the wind is transforming his image and leaves us only his voice in the distance of this landscape that will also disappear.

EXPERIMENTAL

TOUCHING SOUND written & directed by Johannes Binotto 40

A scene from an old classic: The femme fatale’s hand touches a dangerous box. Stop the scene and it looks as if she’s touching a different object – the elusive and ungraspable object of sound. Her gestures mirror my own video essay practice: with my fingers on the keyboard the film object is transformed. This essay is handicraft in the literal sense: the trembling image, the stuttering soundtrack, both results of my hands intervening in the course of the film. My fingers get burned. For research purposes.
