Certificate / 1 Year What will I study? The course combines practical training and some basic engineering theory covering the following topics: • Working in engineering • Machining engineering materials • Cutting, forming and assembling engineering materials • Joining engineering materials • Basic maths and science used in engineering.

BTEC First Diploma / 1 Year What will I study? You will cover a range of mechanical and electronic disciplines which include: • Working safely and effectively in engineering • Interpreting and using engineering information • Mathematics for engineering technicians • Selecting and using secondary machining techniques to remove material • Engineering marking out • Using computer aided drawing techniques in engineering • Application of welding • Electronic circuit construction.

What do I need? 4 GCSEs at Grade E or above, to include Maths, English and Science. What could I do next? An Apprenticeship or Level 2 Engineering. Both offered at Swindon College.

Students will also undertake a work experience placement with an employer. What do I need? Four GCSEs at Grade D or above in maths, English and science. Applicants with Level 1 Motor Vehicle Technician & Electrical Installation will be considered. School leavers will require a suitable school reference. A tutor interview is required. What could I do next? An Apprenticeship or Level 3 in Engineering, both offered at Swindon College.
