Cleve –Gardener A semi-retired resident of Australind, Cleve is married and has two children and one grandson. He recently joined the SWCC staff. A lover of outdoors, his previous workplaces have involved landscaping, surveying, building and garden maintenance. Cleve has exciting visions of what he would like to achieve in the gardens at the Eden Grove Community Precinct in Harvey. He would like to replant many of the present plants in the gardens into pots and restructure the garden beds and displays to improve the overall layout and appeal of the area. To do this, he will require plant pots…………….many pots of all sizes.
Used plant pot donation request If you have any used plant pots that you are happy to give away, Cleve would be delighted to use them for his project. He is looking for used plastic pots from medium to large. If you have any pots that you can donate :
You are welcome to drop them off at any of our three offices. OR Please give us a call and we will arrange for someone to collect them from you. Please help Cleve get neck deep in pots!

Pen pals for over 61 years
Pat Shirley May Jones has lived in Harvey all her life and in her youth lived on a farm. This lifestyle was somewhat remote and Shirley reached out to find new friends. At the age of 12, Shirley found a name in the Sunday Times Club section for children, which listed potential pen pals. Shirley wrote to Pat Gniel, a young girl in South Australia. A strong friendship blossomed and has continued for over 61 years. They have exchanged letters on a regular basis throughout the years. They have also met face to face overtime and celebrated special occasions with their respective families. The hard copy, hand written letters have given way to technology, so now Shirley and Pat communicate via FaceBook , but their friendship still runs strong!

Stella Wallace retires
In 2015 , Stella Wallace approached the HACC Organisation (now SWCC) to offer her services as a volunteer. Stella’s previous experience and knowledge within the industry soon had her on staff in a relief position assisting in all areas of the organisation. Stella became a Team Leader in Harvey, which allowed her to become more closely involved in consumer care and work with a team of care workers. In 2019 Stella swapped hats and took over the role of activity organiser in the Eaton Social Centre. Many a laugh and good time was had by all, with Stella leading the way! Stella’s gentle and caring nature has made her a firm favourite with consumers and staff alike.
Stella is hanging up her work hat and looking forward to retirement with gardening, camping, quality time with grandchildren, visiting adult children overseas and tender time with her husband ,her focus. “Thank you to everyone at SW Community Care for your friendships and for teaching me so very much about caring for our Aged community.” Wishing you all the very best, Stella and we look forward to welcoming you back to SWCC as a volunteer in the near future! 18

Men’s Shed Harvey Men's shed consumers recently enjoyed a relaxed day in Bunbury. The day kicked off with a general discussion at the club house solving the problems of the world followed by an early morning tea. First stop on the road was a visit to Kings Cottage, which proved to be a hidden gem as far as museums go, with everyone spending far more time than anticipated checking out the exhibits. There was much reminiscing about using particular items in their younger days. After our time at Kings Cottage it was off to the Aristos Seafood restaurant at the Bunbury waterfront where everyone enjoyed a delightful lunch over looking the water. A rather large ice-cream at Taffy’s Confectionery was a must have. Then it was time to hit the road and head home to Harvey.
