Ch...ch...changes South West Community Care are having some changes to the team in Harvey and Eaton. In July we will say goodbye to our much loved Harvey Team Leader, Stella. But Stella is not going far…… she will be taking on the challenge of an Activities Organiser in our Eaton Social Centre. I’m sure Stella will have as much fun there as Chrissy has over the years. In return, the fabulous Chrissy will be filling Stella’s shoes in the role of Team Leader in Harvey and will be around to introduce herself to as many of our valued consumers as possible. We are looking forward to Stella and Chrissy doing amazing work in their new roles.

MASTERMINDS

A new group has been introduced in Harvey on Tuesdays…… The Masterminds!

Activities are based on the concepts of mindfulness and sensory exploration to encourage being fully engaged in the moment and experiencing positive emotional connections. Participants are encouraged to find joy and self expression through art and listening to or making music.

These activities are essential to promote well being in people who struggle with memory loss and other thinking skills or cognitive functions.

WINTER CHILLS During the winter months with colds and flus about, South West Community Care would like to assure you that your needs and services will still be met to the best of our ability. What to do if you are unwell with a contagious or infectious illness If you receive support within your home and you have a potentially contagious or infectious illness (e.g. gastroenteritis, cold or flu, shingles) it is important that you call and let South West Community Care know. We will need to address your support needs while you are unwell and consider how essential aspects of your care can be met. It may be necessary for your services to be altered while you recuperate. If you are suffering from a contagious illness and do not notify the office, we may not be able to meet your care needs.

Please call our office on 9782 4000 to advise us if you are unwell. Is your regular Care Worker away? No need to cancel! We understand that people who receive support feel very comfortable with their regular Care Worker, however it is essential that we continue to provide the service when the regular worker is absent to ensure we are upholding our duty of care to you as outlined in our service agreement. You do not need to cancel your services when your favourite Care Worker is away as we are very happy to arrange for your services to continue during this time. You can have confidence in any of our South West Community Care Workers. They are selected and trained for their caring attitude, honesty and reliability. When your regular Care Worker is absent, we will do our best to replace them with another Care Worker to ensure your service will continue as normal.

The New Aged Care Quality Standards – What This Means for You The Australian Government has set some new Aged Care Quality Standards and these will apply from the 1st of July 2019. South West Community Care believe the standards are about us caring for you and your individual needs, and the new standards simply make it easier to ensure that you are receiving good care. The CEO, Claire Roach has written to you outlining the new standards and how they will affect you. The letter tells you about the different ways you can get more information about the standards so you understand them. When you see this symbol, you know it is to do with the new Aged Care Quality Standards. We feel confident that the introduction of these new standards will result in an overall improvement in the level of care in the Aged Care industry in Australia.

Cottage Respite Our amazing caring staff always go out of their way to treat our respite clients to something special. In June, Kristy and Frances had a lovely time as they always do. During their outing they stopped at the Lemongrass Café in Harvey and had a coffee together. That was followed by a lovely drive out to the Crooked Carrot Café for lunch. Frances loves their pies and always wants to go there. They enjoyed lunch together and as many people came and went, they are always very busy. The smile on Frances’ face just says it all! If you are caring for someone and in need of some respite assistance, please call one of our

friendly Team Leaders in to find out more about Cottage Respite services on 9782 4000. 18

Ceduna Sunset It’s a long way, from Caiguna Cocklebiddy, to Ceduna Past the Great Australian Bight To see, this unusual sight

Seas are calm, and the weather fine Cloud along, the horizon line Sun setting, on a western bay At end of, our travelling day The darkness settles, like a thief A jetty there, in stark relief A lone fisherman, with his lines As gentle breezes, sigh through pines Reflections in, the Hotel glass And they soon too, are made to pass The sun’s fire, on clouds is dying In the dusk are seabirds flying Across the sea, the sun’s rays fade As night draws down, it’s velvet shade The sun has put, itself to bed Leaving nothing more, to be said. © Les Stevens March 2019
