Short Courses CPCAB Level 2 Award Introduction to Counselling
E
This course is intended for candidates who want to learn counselling skills to help others and who want to find out more about this field. The course will be delivered in an interactive and practical way involving the use of experimental elements that will involve some personal disclosure and associated personal development activities. Learners will be required to produce written assignment work and complete self review and learning review documentation. Tutor observation also forms part of the assessment process which may be audio or video recorded. The course also carries external assessment. Due to the nature of some of the activities this qualification is not considered suitable for those who are currently in a state of emotional difficulty.
Confidence Building

This course aims to develop and build confidence and will include the following:
Self assertiveness Stress management Problem solving
Through careful delivery this course will focus on the areas in our lives where we struggle for confidence and aims to outline a range of ways we can deal with this.
Psychology for Fun
E
This introductory level course will look at a range of exciting study areas from how we see ourselves to how we remember. Along the way we will be stopping at authority, personality, intelligence, body language and psychotherapy. Each week will focus on a different subject area to include:
Why we are who we are – how we see ourselves and how we see others How we are with others – self image How we are amongst others – how people work in groups How we express ourselves – attitudes towards personality, use of body language Changing ourselves – exploring the three dominant approaches to therapy Making sense of the world - understanding our environment Keeping track – exploring the memory Thinking smart – intelligence testing
Understanding Stress Management

The aim of the course is to help us to recognise the causes and symptoms of stress and identify potential controls. The course will focus on the following:
What is stress? Why do we get stressed? Different types of stress Optimisation rather than eradication Symptoms and signs of stress and their health implications Stress and biology Stress related conditions The causes of stress in a range of contexts Lifestyle changes Relaxation techniques Cognitive behaviour Planning for stress

Continued Professional Development Packages *These packages are suitable for Early Years practitioners who already have a level 3 qualification. Early Years qualifications and training are changing to meet Government targets for a better-qualified children’s workforce. If you already have a level 3 qualification in early years practice, you can develop your professional skills at South Worcestershire College. All of these CPD packages are CACHE certificated. Leaders, Managers and Deputies This package develops knowledge and skills in depth for those leading or deputising in small or community-based settings. Three units combine level 3 and 4 qualifications in understanding the impact of poverty on children and developing professionalism. Supporting Additional Needs One in five children needs extra input with their learning and development at some point. Develop skills, knowledge and confidence in supporting children’s needs across a range of conditions, and manage the impact of those needs on children’s behaviour. Positive Working with Parents Working with parents is a cornerstone of early years practice. This package develops your knowledge and confidence in that role, from helping parents to handle relationships and behaviour, engaging with their children’s learning and supporting their children’s development. Supporting Children’s Communication Good communication skills underpin children’s success in learning. For some children, becoming effective communicators is challenging. Learn how to support children with speech and language difficulties, support their parents and support biand tri-lingual children. Effective Early Years Practice This package gives an opportunity to reflect in depth on children’s learning and development, practice values and principles, and children’s well-being. Children and Young People’s Workforce Development Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce – Level 2

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people, from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s environments including Early Years and social care. The qualification is aimed at those who wish to work, or are working, in a supervised role in a setting. You will need to be working or have access to a practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. You will be assessed in the workplace by a College assessor. Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce – Level 3

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas. In addition, it contains an optional unit ‘Understand how to set up a home-based childcare service’ which can be taken as a separate unit for those who wish to become registered childminders. This qualification is aimed at those people who have more practical experience in children’s care and are looking to develop their career. It is the only QCF Level 3 qualification conferring occupational competence for the Children and Young People’s Workforce in England. You will need to be working or have access to a practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. You will be assessed in the workplace by a College assessor. Understand how to set up a Home-based Childcare Service

This unit is to prepare learners to work as home-based child carers/childminders. This knowledge based unit supports the development of policies and procedures relevant to registration and basic business skills to set up a home-based childcare service. The unit involves developing a marketing plan, demonstrates financial planning, health and safety requirements, risk assessment, the handling of medicines, as well as the understanding the importance of working with parents. Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools – Level 2

This qualification is designed to reflect the activities of those who provide direct support for teaching and learning in any type of school. This level 2 qualification is aimed at those who are new to the role and responsibilities. The OCR Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a high quality, industry-recognised award. The certificate is a vocationally related qualification that provides valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding which will support your practice in an educational setting. Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools – Level 3

This qualification is designed to reflect the activities of those who provide direct support for teaching and learning in any type of school. This level 3 qualification is aimed at those who have some autonomy in their role with a varied range of responsibilities and some opportunities for decision making whilst being overseen, rather than led, by the teacher. It is expected that a level 3 candidate would have responsibility for implementing agreed planned programmes of work, managing and preparing resources and providing support to learners requiring particular help to overcome barriers to learning.
