Catering and Food Hygiene Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

E

This one day qualification looks at the principles of Food Hygiene and is aimed at anyone working in a catering or hospitality setting where food is prepared, cooked and served. Typical environments may include hotels, restaurants, public houses, retailering, contract catering, fast-food outlets, hospitals, care and nursing homes, schools, prisons and the Armed Forces. The course covers the following: • Food safety hazards • Temperature control • Refrigeration, chilling and cold holding • Cooking, hot holding and reheating • Food handling • Principles of safe food storage • Cleaning • Food premises and equipment The course is assessed by multiple-choice examination and on completion of this qualification the candidate will gain a firm grasp of the importance of food safety and knowledge of the systems, techniques and procedures involved. They will have the confidence and expertise to deliver quality food safely. Refreshment of this qualification is recommended every 3 years. Level 3 Food Safety in Catering

This course is designed for managers and supervisors in medium to large manufacturing and catering businesses. Legislation places a greater onus on accountability for food businesses and this course aims to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to do the job effectively. The qualification covers the following topics: • Legislation • Supervisory management • Temperature control (chilling, cooking) • Cleaning • Contamination control • Applying and monitoring good hygiene practices • Implementing good food safety procedures • Contributing to the safety training of others Assessment of the course is through multiple choice examination. You are required to bring photographic identification with you on the day of the course.

Level 2 Barista Skills

Candidates will be taught skills in the preparation, presentation and serving of coffee and other beverages including how to handle and store them, how to keep equipment clean and in good working order resulting in the candidate being able to offer the best coffee experience. The qualification is made up of four learning outcomes as follows: • Demonstrate product knowledge • Clean and check equipment • Display drinks building technique • Serve Customers

First Aid South Worcestershire College is an HSE approved provider of First Aid. Emergency First Aid at Work

This one day course is for Emergency First Aid at Work. The course will follow a syllabus recommended by the Health and Safety Executive. This will enable an appointed person to participate in the event of illness, injury or an accident. Personnel in larger organisations may also benefit from this training to enable an appointed person to assist qualified First Aid staff whilst working in small groups away from their employer’s establishment. It is also suitable for those wishing to learn some basic First Aid Skills for use in everyday life. The course covers resuscitation, control of bleeding, management of unconscious casualty. It aims to raise awareness of the role of the first aider, communication and contents of a first aid box. An Emergency First Aid at Work certificate will be awarded to successful candidates. Continuous assessment takes place throughout the course.
