INSTALLING A DISHWASHER IS EASY WITH THESE PLUMBING PRO TIPS A dishwasher needs hot water. The closest source is the hot water supply under the sink. Replace the shutoff valve with a new one that connects both the sink and the dishwasher to the hot water line. The new valve, also known as an angle stop, will have a vertical outlet to be connected to the faucet and a horizontal outlet to supply hot water to the dishwasher. Use a long braided wire hose available at your local Fort Worth plumbing supply or home improvement centre for the connection. The dishwasher will come with a hose used to connect the dishwasher to the drain under the sink. Normally, according to swat plumbing the most referred Fort Worth plumber, the hose is connected to an inlet in the garbage disposal. Water empties from the sink, through a strainer, into a tailpiece connected to a P-trap and then into the waste line. Swat Plumbing Tip of the Week Tip #1 A dishwasher requires three utility connections to operate. The electrical connection is most often a 15- or 20-amp dedicated line run from the circuit breaker panel by a licensed electrician. Tip #2 Some dishwashers plug in, while others are wired directly to the appliance. Fresh water enters the dishwasher by means of either a steel braided flex hose or rigid copper tubing connected to the household water supply, ideally with a separate shutoff valve. Tip #3 Dirty water is drained from the appliance via a flexible line attached between the dishwasher and a suitable connection beneath the sink, such as a fitting on the garbage disposal or on the drain line feeding into the sink trap. In some areas, building codes require a device called an air gap to physically prevent a direct connection from ever forming between the sewer and the dishwasher’s drain line. Tip #4 Most dishwashers have a pair of mounting brackets on top that are designed to be screwed securely to the underside of the cabinet or countertop. On some models it’s also possible to relocate the brackets to the side of the dishwasher cabinet. PLUMBING TRADE SECRETS: In the case of a stone counter-top, there are kits available for attaching mounting points directly to the stone with epoxy adhesive, or a narrow strip of wood or metal is sometimes installed across the top of the dishwasher opening instead. According to your local Fort Worth plumber, whichever method you choose, don’t skip this important installation step. A fully loaded dishwasher can cause all sorts of damage if it tips forward out of its enclosure.
