Brand chair of new Sport and Recreation Council

On Saturday, the Swartland Municipality announced the new Swartland Sport and Recreation Council.

This council consists of 17 members selected from the 8 sporting forums from across the Swartland.

The 17 members of this council are: President: Henfre Brand, Vice President:

Ntsikelelo Bobe, Secretary: Brittanee Appollus, Assistant Secretary: Kariem De Bruyn, Treasurer: Morris Markus, Marketing Officer: Marius van Rensburg.

Additional Members: Hendrik Thiersen,

Christian Arendse, Chris Booys (official representing Swartland Municipality).

The establishment of the council is a process that began in March of this year when the Executive Mayor, Harold Cleophas, called a summit of all sporting codes in the Municipality to discuss strengths, weaknesses and needs within the sporting fraternity.

This process led to the establishment of eight sport forums representing the entire region and culminated in the selection of a council to serve the entire sporting community in the Swartland.

The purpose with the establishment of this body is to help combine resources and create the opportunity for all sporting codes, irrespective of size or popularity, to enjoy fair representation and have a voice in matters affecting them going forward. The Swartland Sport and Recreation

Council will be the vehicle to coordinate all codes and unite communities.

It will create an environment for sport to develop in and create an opportunity for the expansion of all codes in our area.

Swartland Municipality will support this council through fostering partnerships with government and the private sector and will assist the council in the efforts to ensure that sports are the essence of growth, resilience, and passion.

Sport has the potential to unite communities, teach courage, sacrifice, determination, commitment, toughness, perseverance, respect and bravery.
