Our 5th season ,after what was probably our best season on and off the pitch last year. Whilst the position didn't change we played a much better style of football and had a more stable squad despite only fielding the same back four on one or two occasions. The addition of 5 of the U18’s to this years squad will add more quality and no doubt testosterone to the squad. Beth Pounder has joined us on the medical bag, a qualified sports scientist and former Billingham Junior Ladies, Beth is a fantastic addition to the management team. Our 1st pre season found us away to Bishop Auckland Reserves from the Durham Alliance on 3G artificial pitch, both sides looked to play football and the 3-2 scorline saw 5 fine goals. Although a defeat it was a good start to pre season and a good base to build on in terms of performance and style. Annfield plain next up and a goal fest in very hot conditions 4-4 and again some good football. Hartlepool FC provided much tougher opposition and although we again played quite well we wnet down 3-1. The only real disappointment of pre season was the 2-2 draw with Lakes Utd a very poor performance only lifted by Cooky getting 70 minutes on the pitch and Andy Roney’s return after 2 years out with a broken leg graced with a goal. Our 1st home game sees us welcome Redcar Town, a new team to the league this year ,following our away trip to their neighbours Redcar Athletic. We had a good shape about us generally, Dave Rowney (mom) and Adam Johnson both excellent in the midfield which gave our back four an easy job. Whilst we were tight in defence offering Athletic no chances, giving us our 1st clean sheet in 35 games, we were sloppy up front and should have been out of sight by half time. I’m sure the lads up top know that and what is expected of them and with a very attacking bench the pressure is on them to deliver. All said and done it was a decent performance and one we need to take into today’s game. It’s all about the squad and 7 lads on the bench puts pressure on the starting 11……. Lets keep that pressure on and with 6 more due back it can only make Mine, Ian’s and Pete’s job harder

2010 / 2011 The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013 A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.

The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014 We started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105

A NEW NAME…….. BILLINGHAM FC

Now going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Beth is a qualified sports scientist having qualified from Middlesbough university this year. She has agreed to be our physio this year freeing Ian & myself up to concentrate on the coaching/management side of the game matchday. Beth has already taken charge of our warm ups and has brought variety to keep the lads sharp.

on

During the pre season games and training sessions she has been invaluable offering the lads snippets of advice on niggling injuries they are carrying and keeping a watchful eye on Cooky and Andy R both coming back from broken leg injuries. I’m sure throughout the season we will see the benefit of Beth’s knowledge and that will replace the basic RICE advice given by myself, Ian & Pete. Beth also fits into our philosophy which is to keep Junior players involved in the club when they finish playing. A former Billingham Juniors Girls/Ladies player, Beth only hung her boots up because of medial knee problems, we were more than happy to give her the experience of looking after the squad which will hopefully stand her in good stead in the coming years. Beth is also available for massages, consultations and injury management programes. Please contact the club or Beth directly at 07914342450 or via facebook www.facebook.com/home.php#!/beth.pounder.33?fref=ts. This will be Beth’s page once she is back from terrorising Spain, a slot where

It’s been a year of change both for our squad and for the Juniors in general. Last season we moved the whole club away fron Bedford Terrace and relocated all our teams at Northfield Sportsdrome, something which cost us as a club financially but we thought right to do as a committee. We also pushed through our name chane dropping the “Town” reference and for our squad (the seniors) the intermediates also to become Billingham Juniors and Billingham FC. We held our 1st ever club presentation day at the Swan, taking over the whole site for the day and what a day we put on. With the fantastic efforts of all the managers and coaches and Lee Shackleton’s vision we really put on a show and proved to all who attende what a fantastic and big club we are. Following that and with the help of Northfield school we held our Peter Cooper Football Festival and AGAIN we delivered, all age groups on the same day, another 1st for the club and a fantastic day all round along with our 1st ever Balloon race. As ever our Squad spread our philosophy of a bottom up club with friendlies taking us to Annfield Plain, Bishop Auckland Hartlepool and Redcar. We also held our 1st Golf day… now annual event. A 1st day win is also a 1st… keep them coming

We have developed relationships through friendlies and county cup games across the North East in particular Birtley St Josephs, Whickham SC, Coxhoe Athletic and Redcar Athletic. This Year we had friendlies against Bishop Auckland Res, Annfield Plain, and Hartlepool FC As a management team we see this as part of the squads development on and off the field.
