We welcome Middleton Rangers to the Sportdrome this afternoon. Our trip to Darlington earlier in the year was a frustrating one. I thought over the 95 minutes we were slightly he better team, Rangers hadn’t caused us too many problems, not until the last minute when our niavity showed again and we conceded the only goal of the game. Our last game home to Staithes, whilst we knew would be a hard game, was one of our most disappointing games this season. 1-0 at half time we were still in the game even if we were not playing well. To get to 70 minutes and go 3-0 down was a fair result had the game ended there but it didn’t . The next 20 minutes we showed a complete lack of interest and more unusually a complete lack of character. We really need to play with some consistency but that consistency has to be the quality football we can play for 45 minutes. If we can maintain that level who knows where we will finish and how that will take us into next season. The league is close this year, maybe not on points but any team can get a result against another team and we fall into that bracket. The only team I think that were well ahead of us is Boro Rangers and they are not top. We welcome Jack Obrien back into the squad after a year out injured, Jack will put pressure on the curret squad for increasing the quality at the back. As I said last week, if we play the way we know we can for the rest of the season then who knows where we will end but it’s up to the lads to make sure we take that opportunity BUT we cannot play like we did last week and expect anything from games

2010 / 2011

The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012

With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013

A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.

The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014

We

started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105

A NEW NAME……..

BILLINGHAM FC

Now

going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Meniscal Tears in Football A meniscal tear essentially comes about due to an acute injury during sports or due to chronic wear and tear. In the first case, perhaps it is the collision with the opposing player on the football field which tears the meniscus. Football players who sustain a meniscal tear later report that they either clashed with the opposing player during a tackle or they twisted their knee without any outside influence and it "cracked". This cracking sound can also be heard sometimes. Those who are affected often feel a sharp pain and are sometimes then able to move their knee in unusual directions. This is due to the fact that a meniscal tear is often accompanied by a ligament rupture. The medial collateral ligaments (MCL) and/or the cruciate ligament (ACL) are often affected. The knee loses its central stabilization. As inconvenient as a multiple trauma may be for the person affected, there is, however, good news about the treatment. If a tear of the medial ligament, cruciate ligament and the meniscus occurs all at once, all three can be operated on during a single minimally-invasive surgery. If the athlete has suffered a meniscal tear, a long wait is completely inappropriate. The earlier the treatment is performed, the greater the chances are to be able to sew it together again. On the other hand, to walk around on the torn meniscus for weeks is not recommended, since the danger is so great that additional damage to the meniscus will result. Moreover, a meniscal tear threatens the cartilage in the knee. Since the meniscus is made of a harder tissue than the cartilage, the meniscus can severely damage the important and vulnerable gliding layer. The best solution for athletes with a meniscal tear is to unload the knee using a crutch and then go to the doctor. The doctor will likely perform an MRI examination to determine the extent of the injury. If a meniscal tear is indicated, an appointment for a minimally invasive arthroscopic examination of the knee with be arranged, as this is the only way to definitively confirm the extent of the injury. A meniscus torn with a lot of power will exhibit clear contours, which provides a better chance of sewing them together successfully, in a meniscal repair surgery. Meniscal tears to the medial (inside knee) aspect of the knee occur more commonly than tears to the lateral (outside knee) aspect of the knee. A meniscal tear when chronic often means the injury has been left untreated. If untreated this could cause the cartilage to wear down causing an early onset of osteoarthritis as there will be a loss of shock absorption between the bones of the leg making the knee joint. There are different types of meniscal tear, price protocol should be followed immediately when a meniscal tear is suspected, keeping the weight off the leg is also best until you can be seen by a doctor and referred for an MRI scan that will show the diagnosis.

The juniors programme was wiped out by heavy frost . Ths was the first weekend that the weather has beaten us this season. Both our U12 sides are going well and sit top of their respective divisions, our U11’s sit second only 2 points behind the leaders. This year we have Steve Daley, famous for "being the biggest waste of transfer money" but no a fatasic after dinner speaker, the former Wolves, Man City, Burnley and Seatle Sounders player has really made a name for himself on the Speaker's circuit. He will be supported by the fantastic Les Gibson, comedian and impressionist, from Britains got talent. The night will be held at the Swan, Billingham on Friday 20th March. Tickets for the event include a 3 course meal and are available from team managers or committee members at £30 each or £275 for a table of 10. (Dress code is smart, shirt and tie)

We have developed relationships through friendlies and county cup games across the North East in particular Birtley St Josephs, Whickham SC,Coxhoe Athletic and Redcar Athletic. This Year we had friendlies against Bishop Auckland Res, Annfield Plain, and Hartlepool FC As a management team we see this as part of the squads development on and off the field.
