Design Guidelines Having authorized and represented several high-end community Design Guidelines and Design Review processes there is a great deal of respect for how these tools can benefit you and your neighbors. This process will be enthusiastically pursued on a technical basis while addressing the specific sensitivities of the community as well as the Design Review Board members.

The beauty of nature encourages sensitivity to environments that can be created among undisturbed natural landscapes. These environments can range from outdoor living rooms, with kitchens/bars, sofa seating and television viewing for large and small groups, to intimate outdoor personal “spa” type environments with sound and sight of fire, water and panoramic views of the mountain vista and city lights.

No architect, worthy of the name, ever loses the thrill of imagining dreams into reality. The same is true of the best client. The process of design is a sequential pattern of steps, beginning with architect and client, followed by the addition of new participants, each one responsible for specific tasks within an overall framework. When done right, the process of design is every bit as exciting as the ultimate reality. Architecture is a deeper sense of design, that goes beyond the arrangement of rooms , spaces, and things, to the choices made when shaping personal environments. It is the pursuit of a personal ideal made real.

THE LODGE AT MARTIS CAMP Truckee, California This Silver LEED rated facility is a unique community recreation building in a master planned community adjacent to Lake Tahoe, California. It expands the offering of amenities to this community and acts as the focal gathering place for all age groups. It was awarded the Grand Gold Nugget Award 2010 for the best community center design by the PCBC. It was also awarded the Community Center of the Year by the Contractors Association of Tahoe. “MARTIS CAMP IS ARGUABLY THE MOST SUCCESSFUL GATED COMMUNITY IN THE COUNTRY.” —Forbes magazine

THE FAMILY BARN AT MARTIS CAMP Truckee, California With the goal of creating a community gathering place for residents of all ages, the Family Barn welcomes guests into a main great room featuring warm wood tones, and an oversized fireplace. Included on the main level are four swimming pools with locker rooms and a major “Camp Hall” for indoor sports and community events; while the lower level contains a two lane bowling alley. On the second level is a fifty seat state of the art theater for movies and concerts, and a folk art school programmed for kids through fine arts. Perhaps the most inventive and popular design feature of the Family Barn is the incorporation of a three hundred seat amphitheater and stage which opens up off of the Camp Hall with two large sliding barn doors.
