StudentswhoattendSVVCSmustcompletethefollowingprogramrequirements

FEES

ForstudentscheckingoutaSmokyValleylaptop,alaptoprentalfeeof$50mustbepaid foreachstudentatthetimeofenrollment.Students/parentsmaybefinancially responsiblefordamagetotheUSD400computer.SmokyValleylaptopsareprovidedas aneducationaltoolforSVVCSstudents.

ORIENTATIONSESSIONS

Onceenrolled,newstudents(andhisorherguardianifthestudentisnotofmajorityage) arerequiredtoattendanorientationsessiontolearnofthevirtualtechnologynecessaryto accesstheonlinecurriculum,schoolnetwork,andvirtualclassrooms.Thesesessionswill beheldtwiceduringthenewschoolyear.

ATTENDANCEPOLICY

Researchshowsthatstudentsreceivethebestvirtualeducationthroughconsistentaccess ofonlinecoursematerialsandregularcommunicationwiththeteacher.Studentsare expectedtoworkontheirclassesonaregularbasis.Studentstandingwillbedetermined byprogressthroughcourseworkmeasuredbythecompletionof60activitiesperweekor asdeterminedbystaff.Regularlyaccessingcourseworkpromotesgoodstudyhabitsand enhancesthelearningprocess.

Attendance is determined by work completed. Theschoolmustbenotifiedifthestudent is not able to complete his/her weekly coursework. Failure to complete weekly lessons and communicate with the staff will result in the student being placed on academic probation.ThestepsoftheStudentStandingPolicyarelistedonthenextpage.

CATEGORIESOFSTUDENTSTANDINGAT SMOKYVALLEYVIRTUALCHARTERSCHOOL

Studentstandingisonemeasurebywhichteachersandadministratorsevaluatea student’sprogressandperformancethroughSVVCS.Thisisprimarilyhowwe measureattendancestandardsinourschool.Whenastudentdoesnotcompletethese requirementsforseveralconsecutiveweeks,astudentwillbedeterminedastruant. A truancyreportwillbefiledbytheUSD#400SuperintendentandsenttotheCounty Attorney’sOffice.

AstudentingoodstandingatSVVCSmeetsthefollowingexpectations:

1. completesorexceedsthe60activitiesperweekorasdeterminedbystaff

2. attendsthescheduledweeklyseminarmeetingswithhis/herteacheronGoogle Meetsorinperson

3. attendsallscheduledon-sitemeetings

4. communicatesopenlywiththeteacherandtheoffice,andreturnsand/or acknowledgesallcorrespondencewithin24hours

5. earnsapassinggradeinallcoursework

Ifthestudentmeetsalloftheseexpectationsonaweeklybasis,thenthestudentwill remainingoodstanding.

Ifastudentdoesnotmeetthefollowingexpectationsonaweeklybasis,thenthe studentwilllosethestatusofgoodstandingandbedesignatedeitherastudenton AcademicNotice,AcademicWarningorAcademicProbation.

AcademicNotice.Astudentshallbeassignedthe designationofacademicnoticewhenhe/shefailstomeet theabovelistedcriteria.TheLeadTeacherwillbe responsibleforupdatingthestudentlogtoreflectthis changeinstandingbyTHEENDOFTHEDAYONTHE SUCCEEDINGMONDAYofthestudent’sabsence;the student’sSVVCSSeminarTeacherwillberesponsiblefor makingcontactwiththestudent’sparenttoalertthemof thisdesignation.Astudentwillbeingoodstandingwhen theyhavemetalloftherequirementsasdefinedbytheir teachertoberemovedfromthisdesignation.

AcademicWarning.Astudentshallbeassignedthe designationofacademicwarningattheexpirationoftwo weekswhenhe/shefailstomeettheabovelistedcriteria. TheLeadTeacherwillberesponsibleforupdatingthe studentlogtoreflectthischangeinstandingbyTHEEND OFTHEDAYONTHESUCCEEDINGMONDAYofthe student’sabsence;theSVVCSLeadTeacher willbe responsibleformakingcontactwiththestudent’s parent/guardiantoalertthemofthisdesignationaswellas discussingoptionstoengagethestudentbackintheir learning.OnceastudentisplacedonAcademicWarning, he/shemustmeettheexpectationsfor2consecutive weeksbeforereturningtogoodstanding.

AcademicProbation.Astudentonacademicprobationis onewhohasfailedtomeettheabovelistedcriteriafora periodofthreeweeks.Adesignationofacademic probationmeansthestudentisatriskoftruancyor dismissal.Astudentonacademicprobationmayforfeit his/herprivilegeofalaptopwiththeschoolandmust complywiththeofficetoreturntheirlaptopandreview theirstatusatSVVCS.Studentswillberesponsiblefor identifyingtheirplantocompletetheirschoolwork, guaranteeaccesstotheirowntechnology,andreturnto positivestanding.Intheeventthatastudentisplacedon academicprobation,theDirectorofSVVCSwillcalla meetingamongstthestudent,parentandLeadTeacherto discussthebestcourseofactionaspertainstothestudent’s educationaswellasmakeanymodificationsor accommodationsinordertoassistthestudentinbeinga successfullearner Astudentmayalsobegivenan in-schoolsuspensionwhichcouldrequirecomingonsiteto completecourseworkeachweek. Failuretocompletean in-schoolsuspensionmeansthestudentwillremainon probationandwillbeatriskofbeingdismissedfromthe programand/orconsideredtruant.Inaddition,astudent’s accountmaybelockeduntiltheonsiteworksessionhas beencompleted.Attheendofeachsemester,astudent’s continuedenrollmentmaybeinjeopardyduetofailureto meetprogramrequirementsonthestudentstandingpolicy

Whenastudentdoesnotcompletetheserequirementsforseveralconsecutiveweeks,a studentwillbedeterminedastruant. AtruancyreportwillbefiledbytheUSD#400 SuperintendentandsenttotheCountyAttorney’sOffice.

Notethatnotificationofthesedesignationsiscontingentontheteachermakingtimely updatestothestudentstatuslogandmeetingsheetbynooneveryMonday.Also,itisthe LeadTeacher’sdiscretionwhetherornottoplaceastudentonanyoftheseacademic standings.Forinstance,ifthestudenthascommunicatedanydifficultiesorcomplications thatwouldinterferewiththecompletionoftheirschooling,thentheLeadTeacherisat libertytoconsiderthestudent’splacementonthestudentstandingpolicy.

GUIDANCE&COUNSELINGSERVICES

ServicesprovidedbythecounseloratSmokyValleyVirtualCharterSchoolcoverthe areasofPersonalCounseling,Educational&AcademicGuidance,EducationalPlanning andInformationalServices.

PERSONAL/EDUCATIONALCOUNSELING:Studentsfacingissueswithbeing

successfulintheiracademicexperience,thosedealingwithpersonalissuesintheirlifeor thosewhojustneedsomeonetodiscussissuesofconcernmayrequestcontactwiththe counselorandasingleormultiplewebconferencescanbesetuptoassistthestudent.

Conferencesofthistypemayalsobeinitiatedattherequestoftheschooladministration, teachingstaff,parentorschoolcounselor.Smallgroupmeetingsmaybeavailableas initiatedbytheschoolstaff.

TheSVVCSregistrarisavailabletohelpwithtranscriptreviewandsomeindividual enrollmentservice.

MATERNITYLEAVE

HereatSVVCSweunderstandtheimportanceofsupportingourstudentsduringthespecial timeofmaternityandparenthood.Westrivetoprovideaninclusiveandaccommodating environmentthatpromotesthewell-beingofallourstudents.

Assuch,wehaveestablishedthefollowingpolicyregardingmaternityleave:

1. DurationofMaternityLeave:Studentswhoareexpectingorhaverecentlygiven birthareentitledtoamaternityleaveofsixweeks.Thisperiodisdesignedtoallow forrecoveryandbondingtimewiththenewborn.

2. Doctor'sRecommendation:Incaseswhereastudent'shealthorthehealthofthe babyrequiresalongerleaveperiodthansixweeks,thestudentmaysubmita recommendationfromtheirdoctor.Thisrecommendationwillbereviewedbythe appropriateadministrativepersonneltodeterminethenecessaryextensions.

3. ExcusalfromSeminarsandActivities:Duringthematernityleaveperiod,students willbeexcusedfromparticipatinginseminarsandothermandatoryschool activities.

4. ResumingAcademicEngagement:Attheconclusionofthematernityleaveperiod, ameetingwillbescheduledbetweenthestudent,parents,director,andschool counselor.Thismeetingwillprovideanopportunitytodiscussthestudent'sreturnto academicactivities,addressanyconcernsorquestions,andmakenecessary arrangementsforasmoothtransitionbacktofullparticipation.

5. ConfidentialityandPrivacy:Theinstitutionrecognizesthesensitivenatureof maternityleaveandwilltreatallrelatedinformationwiththeutmostconfidentiality Werespecttheprivacyofourstudentsandwillensurethattheirpersonal circumstancesarehandleddiscreetlyandrespectfully.

6. SupportandResources:Duringthematernityleaveperiod,studentsmaycontinueto workonassignments,aswellashaveaccesstoallteachersandstaff.Thecounselor willalsobeavailabletothestudentforcounselingservices.

Webelievethatthismaternityleavepolicywillcontributetoapositiveandinclusive educationalenvironment,supportingstudentsduringthisimportantphaseoftheirlives.

CHEATING/PLAGIARISM

Donotcopyandpasteinformationintodocumentsandsubmitthatworkasoriginal thoughtsandideas.ThisincludesusingArtificialIntelligencesoftwareorapplications.If anassignmentrequiresdocumentationofworkscited,thestudentwillincludea bibliography/workscitedpagetodocumentthesourceofanyinformationused.Ifa studentneedshelpwithcopyrightpleasecontacttheteacher.

Studentsengaginginunethicalacademicpractices(copying,cheating,turninginwork thatisnotthestudent’sown)willfacedisciplinaryaction.Consequenceswilldepend upontheseverityoftheincident,and/orthenumberofoffensesofthistypeonthepartof thestudent.

Firstoffense- thestudentwillberequiredtoresubmittheassignment.thestudent willberequiredtoresubmittheassignment.

Secondoffense-Studentwillreceivea0forthatassignmentandameetingwillbe scheduledwiththeparents,studentandDirector.

Ifthebehaviorcontinues,itwillbeatthediscretionoftheDirectortodecideuponfurther action.

CLASSIFICATIONOFSTUDENTS

Highschoolstudentswillbeclassifiedasfreshmen,sophomores,juniors,andseniors.A studentmusthavepassedaminimumof6creditstobeclassifiedasasophomore,12 creditstobeajunior,and18creditstobeasenior

Theschoolregistrarwilldeterminestudentclassificationonacase-by-case basis.Officialtranscriptswillbeusedtodetermineclassificationplacement.

GRANTINGCREDITFORINCOMINGSTUDENTS

Studentsmustprovideanofficialtranscriptfromtheschoollastattendedupon enrollment.Homeschoolstudentsmustprovideatranscriptofcoursescompletedwithin thehomeschoolsetting.ItisthegoalofSVVCStoplacethestudentinthemost appropriateacademicsettingintermsofcourseselection.

DISCIPLINE

Althoughstudentsattendingvirtuallyarenotusuallyassigneddetentions,studentsand theirparentscanbeaskedtoattendaconferenceattherequestoftheteacherorthe directortodiscussabehaviorsituationinvolvingaparticularincident.Conferencesmaybe heldinpersonorvirtually. Astudentmayalsobeplacedonin-schoolsuspensionwhich couldrequirethestudentcomingonsitetocompletecourseworkeachweek.Oncea studentreceivestwoISS’sinasemester,he/shewillbeplacedonastudentattendance contract. Astudentcontractmayalsobeimplementedasaresultofastudentnotmaking adequateprogress.

Dismissal

Afterrepeatedviolations,attemptstocorrectmisbehaviorfail,orinextreme serioussituations,astudentmaybedismissedfromschool.Thestudentisnot permittedtobeonlineoronschoolgroundsduringtheperiodofthedismissal.

ADDINGANDINCOMPLETIONOFANONLINECOURSE AddinganOnlineCourse

Studentswantingtoaddanonlinecoursemustnotifytheirteacherandlead teacherofthecharterschool.

IncompletionofanOnlineCourse

Studentsareawardedan“I”foracoursethathasnotbeencompletedattheendof thesemester Ifthestudentdoesnotfinishthatparticularclassandwithdrawsfrom SVVCSthe“I”willbechangedtoan“F”.

MEDICATION

Anystudentwhoattendsthevirtualschoolinperson,andhasaneedtotakeover-thecounterorprescribedmedicationmusthaveonfilea“RequestforMedicationtobe AdministeredDuringSchoolAttendance”form.(Theparentandthestudent’sphysician mustsignthisform.)Thisisnecessaryfortheprotectionofthestudentandtheschoolas outlinedintheNursePracticeAct,KSA65-1113.Themedicationistobeheldinthe charterschoolofficeforsafekeepinganddispensingasinstructedontherequestform.

GRADES

SVVCSstudents,parents/guardianswillaccesscoursegradesviaEdgenuity.Parentswill receiveaccesstoaweeklyprogressreportonGoogleDrive.Progressreportsareupdated onMondayofeachweek. Inaddition,Edgenuitywillgenerateadaily/weeklyreport emailedtotheparentsshowingprogressmade.

Competencymustbedemonstratedineachcourseinwhichastudentreceivescreditona transcript.Competencyisdefinedasastudentearningatleastanoverallgradeof60% andanaverageof60%onallunittests.Studentshaveanopportunitytoimprovetheir gradebyretakingtests,quizzesandassignmentswithinthecurrentsemesterinwhichthe coursewascompleted.

Attheconclusionofeachschoolyear,thestudentandparentwillberequiredtoattenda wrap-upmeetinginwhichthestaffwillshareasummaryofastudent’swork, credits/classescompletedandarecommendationtocontinueatSVVCS.

STUDENTDRESSPOLICY

Astudentdresscodewillbeineffectforthosestudentsattendingthevirtualcharter school,whetherattendingoncampusorviatheInternetbywebconference.The followingpolicywillbeenforced.

Appearancedoesaffectthelearningatmosphereofaschool.Neatness,decency,andgood tasteareemphasizedasguidelinesforacceptabledress.Toaidstudentsandparentsin determiningacceptableschooldress,thefollowingguidelineshavebeendeveloped:

• Shoesarerequiredwhenattendingtheschoolcampus.

• Undergarmentswillnotbeexposed.

• Shirtsaretobelongenoughthatthemidriffdoesnotshow.

• Allsleevelessapparelmustbetasteful.Topswithlow-cutnecksorlarge armholesshallnotbeworn.

• Studentsarenotpermittedtowearanyitemsthatthroughpicture,word,or inferenceencouragetheuseofillegaldrugs;areindecentthroughobscenity, profanity,orslang;areanti-patriotic.

• Studentsarenotallowedtowearanyitemsthatthroughpicture,word,or inferenceimplygangaffiliation.

• Studentsneedtobeappropriatelydressedforseminar

TECHNOLOGYSUPPORT

Itisourgoaltoprovidetechsupporttoourstudentsandparentsassoonaspossiblewhen problemsariseoneitherendoftheconnection.Whentechnologyproblemsare encounteredpleaseworktodetermineiftheproblemiswiththeInternetprovider(Cox, SBCGlobal,Nex-Tech.)Pleasecontacttheofficeimmediatelyat785-227-4292ifthe problemisdeterminedtobewiththelaptop.Pleaserefrainfrompurchasingpowercord replacementsbutrathercalltheofficeinstead.Thegoalofthetechnologysupport programistogetthestudentonlineandreengagedinlearningactivitiesassoonas possible.

TOBACCO/DRUGS/WEAPONS TobaccoProducts

Studentpossessionoruseoftobaccoproducts,includingvapingdeviceswillnotbe permittedinschoolbuildings,onschooltransportation,atanyschool-sponsors event,onschoolgrounds,orongroundsusedforschoolpurposes.Disciplinary consequenceswillresultforviolationsofthispolicy.ASchoolResourceOfficer mayoccasionallysearchthebuildingifaprobablecauseexists.

DrugFreeSchoolsPolicy

Theunlawfulpossession,use,ordistributionofillicitdrugsandalcoholbystudents orschoolemployeesonschoolpremisesorasapartofanyschoolactivityis prohibited.Thispolicyisrequiredbythe1989amendmentstotheDrugFree SchoolsandCommunitiesActP.L.102-226.ApprovedbytheUSD400Boardof EducationonAugust13,1990,thispolicyoutlinesdisciplinaryactionfor violations.Allstudentswillreceiveannualnotificationofthispolicythrougha handoutwhentheyenroll.

Weapons

Astudentshallnotpossess,handle,ortransmitanyobjectthatcanreasonablybe consideredaweaponontheschoolgroundsorofftheschoolgroundsataschool activity,function,orevent.

SPECIALEDUCATION

Smoky Valley Virtual Charter students with an existing IEP will receive services through SVVCS and the McPherson County Educational Coop. The student’s current IEP will be reviewed upon enrollment to determine how SVVCS can provide the best servicesforthe student. As with all students enrolling in SVVCS it is important forallinvolvedtohavea clearunderstandingofthestudent’sneedsforsuccessinavirtuallearningenvironment.

Placementinthevirtualschool/programwillbedeterminedbytheIEPteam.After applyingtothevirtualschool/program,theIEPteamwillmeetwiththestudentwith disabilitiesandhis/herfamilytodetermineifthevirtualenvironmentisanappropriate placementforthestudent.Ifdeemedappropriate,theIEPteamwillalsoidentifythe services,modificationsandaccommodationsthatthestudentshouldreceive.Allservices willbeprovidedvirtually,asreasonablypossible.Thoseservicesthatcannotbeprovided virtuallywillbemadeavailablewithinthedistrictthatsponsorsthevirtual school/program.

ELIGIBILITYFORSTUDENTSATTENDINGVIRTUALSCHOOLS

KSHSAAExecutiveBoardPolicyRegardingScholasticEligibilityofVirtualStudents: WithrespecttoKSHSAAScholarshipRequirementsRule13andEnrollmentRule

15,studentsmaycountvirtualcoursesforthepurposeofestablishingeligibilityforall KSHSAAsponsoredactivities,providedlocalUSDpolicypermitsdualenrollment agreementswithvirtualschools.

Thefollowingstipulationswillapply: 10

1. Virtualclassesmustbetakenthroughavirtualschool,fullyaccreditedbythe KansasStateDepartmentofEducation.

2. Studentswillbeeligibleatthepublicschoolinwhosedistrictandattendancearea theyreside.

3. VirtualstudentsenrollingandestablishingeligibilitybySeptember20thmustbe includedintheschool’sannualKSHSAAclassificationcount.

4. Thestudentmustbecurrentlyenrolledandattendingaminimumofone(1)class attheKSHSAAmemberpublicschoolwheretheydesireeligibility.Ifthestudent desiresparticipationinmusic,debateorspeechactivities,theymustbeenrolled andattendinginthatacademiccourseattheschool,ifsuchcourseisofferedand theschoolrequiresenrollmentforparticipation.

5. Eligibilityforvirtualstudentswillbeestablishedonasemesterbasisconsistent withtraditionallyenrolledstudents.Virtualandtraditionallyenrolledstudentsare requiredtopassfiveunitsofcrediteachsemestertoestablishscholastic eligibility Theschoolisresponsibletoverifytheacademicprogressofthe studentwiththevirtualschooladministratorpriortosubmittingthestudent’s nameonKSHSAAeligibilityformsandrosters.

6. Virtualstudentsmustbeenrolledinfiveunitsofcredit(courses)eachsemester Attheconclusionoftheacademicsemester,theymusthavecompleted courseworksufficienttoequalapassinggradeineachcourse,consistentwith traditionallyenrolledstudents.

7. Allstudents,virtualortraditional,mustpassfiveunitsofcreditintheprevious semestertoretaineligibility

8. Liketraditionallyenrolledstudents,virtualstudentsmustbecurrentlyenrolledin fiveormorecoursesnotpreviouslypassed,toestablishandretaineligibilityeach semester.

9. Localschooldistrictsretaintheauthoritytoapprovedualenrollmentagreements.

10.IfastudentisinterestedinpursuinganNCAAactivityposthighschool,the familymustcommunicatewithourRegistrarandCounselorpriortoenrollment.

RATIONALE:

Itisinthebestinterestofavirtualstudenttohavedailycontactwithotherstudentsfrom theschoolwithwhomtheywillbeinteractingandcompetingonschoolteams.The studentandtheschoolshareaninterestinthestudentbeingapartofthedailyclimateand cultureoftheschool.

AMERICANSWITHDISABILITIESACTNOTIFICATION

SVVCSSTUDENTCONTRACT

AsastudentenrolledinSVVCSandUSD400,Iagreetothefollowingtermsand conditionsofenrollment:

1. Iunderstanditismyresponsibilitytopromoteacademicintegrity,andhereby promisetocompletemyownschoolworkusingmyowneffortandabilities.Iwill notprovideunethicalacademicassistancetootherstudents,norwillIaccept unethicalacademicassistancefromanyoneelsewhileenrolledasastudentof SVVCS.Iunderstandthatanyviolationofacademicintegritywillresultin disciplinaryactionbytheschooladministration,andmaybegroundsfor expulsionfromtheschool.

2. IunderstandthatifIchoosetouseaUSD400computerformystudies,Iam responsibleforalldamagesthatoccurwhilethecomputerischeckedouttome.

3. Iagreetocompleteallassignmentsandprojectsassignedforeachofmyclasses, andwilladheretothepostedduedates.Iagreetocompleteorexceedthenumber ofweeklylessonsagreeduponbyteacherandstudent(unlessotherwise specified.

4. IunderstandthatImustcomplete2countdaysaspartofthemandatorycount daysforKansasschools. Thisincludestwodaysof6hourseachday (from12am-12pm).Whenrequested,IagreetosignandreturntheAcademic ActivityLogforeachoftherequireddaysandsubmitthemtotheSVVCSoffice atthetimespecified.Studentsmustcompletetheircountdayduringthemonths ofSeptemberandOctober.

5. I understand that as a student of SVVCS, I will be required to take the Kansas State Assessments on specified days at Smoky Valley Virtual Charter School in Springof2023.

6. Ipromisetoansweremail,textorphonemessagesfrommyteacherortheschool within24hours.Iwilladheretotheexpectationsofmyteachersintermsof communicatingwitheachofthemthroughwebconferencesandemail.

7. Ipromisetoattendallscheduledon-sitemeetingsasrequested.Astudentis expectedtoattendatleastoneSTAReventeachsemester.Ifastudentisunable tomeetthisrequirement,astudent’sstandinglevelmaybeadjustedand/oran alternativeactivitymaybeassigned.

8. IunderstandthatfailuretoabidebythecomponentsofthisStudentContract could resultinaprogressreviewwhichwilldeterminemypossiblecontinuation atSVVCS.

1.) AcceptableUse:Informalrulesofbehaviorhaveevolvedfortheuseof technologyandcommunicationoftheInternetandotheronlineservices.All usersofSmokyValleyUSD400’scomputersandnetworksareexpectedto abidebythegenerallyacceptedruleoftechnologyusageandetiquette. Collectively,theyhelptoidentifyalevelofacceptableuseofthetechnology inUSD400.

2.) StateLawandLocalPolicy:Violationsofthepoliciesandproceduresof SmokyValleyUSD400and/orKansasLawconcerningtheuseoftechnology willresultindisciplinaryaction.

3.) Penalties:Anyuserviolatingtheseprovisions,state,and/orlocalpolicies, applicablestateandfederallawsorpostedclassroomanddistrictrulesis subjecttolossoftechnologyprivilegesandanyotherdistrictdisciplinary options,includingcriminalprosecution.Schoolanddistrictadministrators willmakethefinaldeterminationastowhatconstitutesunacceptableuse andtheirdecisionisfinal.

4.) Thefollowinglevelsofpunishmentmaybeenforcedbytheadministration. Whilethelevelsmaybeimplementedinorder,nothingpreventstheadministration fromselectinganystepdependingonthefactsandtheseverityoftheviolation.

Level1:AstudentwillfullyviolatingtheAcceptableUsePolicyofUSD400 maylosetheuseoftheUSD400laptopforanumberofdaysdecidedby DistrictAdministration.

Level2:Astudentwho,afteraLevel1lossofprivileges,continuestoengage inseriousorpersistentmisbehaviorbyviolatingthedistrict'sstandardsof conductmaylosetheuseoftheUSD400Laptopfortheremainderofthe schoolyearorremainingschoolyearsandmayberecommendedfor expulsion.

Level 3: A student who engagesinconductontheInternetthatcontainsthe elements of the offense ofcriminalmischief,asdefinedbystateandfederal lawcouldbeexpelled.

USD400TechnologyAcceptableUsePolicy:

LaptopAcceptableUsePolicy

USD400’snetworkfacilitiesand/orlaptopsaretobeusedinaresponsible,efficient, andethicalmannerinaccordancewiththephilosophyofSmokyValleyUSD400. Studentsmustacknowledgetheirunderstandingofthispolicyaswellasthefollowing Guidelines.Failuretoadheretothesestandardsmayresultinsuspensionorrevocation oftheoffender’slaptopand/ornetworkprivileges.

1.Theadministrationand/ortheirdesignee(s)havetherighttoinspectanycomputer, application,orperipheraldeviceassociatedwithanyorallUSD400computers.This includesbutisnotlimitedtoemail,documents,pictures,orothercomponents associatedwithallUSD400computers.

2.E-mailandallotherformsofelectroniccommunicationaretobeusedina responsiblemanner Studentsmaynotusevulgar,derogatory,orobscenelanguage. Studentsmaynotengageinpersonalattacksorharassothers.

3.StudentsarenotallowedtoregisterorsignupforanythingviaInternetore-mail unlessitisapprovedbyateacheroradministration. WhenSigninguporregistering viatheInternetore-mail,theyarenottousetheirassignedUSD#400emailaddress.

4.TheInternetistobeusedforresearchandasameansofobtainingacademically relevantinformation. MaterialobtainedthroughresearchontheInternetandthen usedinacademicworkistobeproperlydocumented.

5.Copyrightlawsmustberespected.Ifyouhaveanyquestionsaboutwhatconstitutesa copyrightviolation,pleasecontacttheSVVCSoffice.

6.Ifyouhavespecificneedforadditionalsoftwareoryouwanttoaddpersonal software,youmustfilloutanapplicationthatcanbepickedupattheSVVCSoffice

8.Studentsmaynotengageinpersonalattacksorharassmentofothers,andmaynot postinformationaboutotherstudentsorteachersonlinewithouttheirpermission.

RulesforTechnologyandInternetUse–SVVCS

Thelaptopsandcarryingcasethathavebeenissuedtoeachstudentarethepropertyof theSmokyValleyPublicSchools. Thiscomputerisonloantothestudentandmustbe usedinaccordancewiththefollowingpolicies:

● Laptopsmustbekeptinthebackpackorsleeveissuedwiththeschoollaptop. Theymaynotbekeptintheregularbookbagsorbackpackswithouttheir protectivesleeve. Laptopsarenottobecarriedunlesstheyaresecuredinthe protectivesleeveorbackpackprovidedbyUSD#400.

● Studentsarenottodefacetheirlaptopsandcarryingcaseinanyway,forexample, withstickers,whiteout,pencil,etc. Ifthereareanyquestions,pleasecheckwith theSVVCSoffice.

● Studentsarenottoremove,defaceoraltertheUSD400identifyingstickers, labels,orbarcodesinanyway

● StudentsmaynotreplaceanyUSD#400issuedequipment. Forexample, purchasinganewchargerorpowercordtoreplaceaUSD#400issuedoneisnot allowed. AllequipmentandrepairsaretobecompletedthroughUSD#400.

● Nevershareyourpasswords.Youareaccountableforallaccesstowebsites, software,computers,andtechnologyforwhichyouareassignedaschool password.

● Treatalltechnologywithrespect.Donotvandalizeanytechnologyequipment. DeliberateattemptstodegradetheUSD400network,localnetworksortodisrupt systemperformancewillresultindisciplinaryaction.

● Obeyrulesofcopyright.(Formoreinformationseepage6StudentHandbook –Cheating/Plagiarism.)

Anyviolationoftheseruleswillresultindisciplinaryaction.

SVVCSPARENTCONTRACT(Forstudentsage17andunder)

AsaparentofachildwhoisenrollinginSVVCS,Iagreetothetermsandconditionsof theStudentContract,andIhavereadandunderstandthefollowingParentContract:

1. Iunderstandtheimportanceofsupportingmychild’sefforttomaintainacademic integrityinregardstocompletingassignments,projects,papers,andexams online.Iwillnotprovideunethicalacademicassistancetomychild,butwill providelearningsupportbymonitoringhisorheronlineeffortstocomplete assignments,projects,papers,andexamsinanhonestandethicalmanner.I understandthatanyviolationofacademicintegritywillresultindisciplinary actionbytheschooladministration,andmaybegroundsforsuspensionor dismissalfromtheschool.

2. Iunderstandthatmychildmusthaveapersonofmajorityagethatisresponsible forcheckingstudentworkeachday,answeringsimplequestions,verifyingthat thestudenthasrepliedtoanycontactfromtheteacherorfromtheschooland ensuringthatthestudentisworkingeachday.

3. IunderstandthatitismyresponsibilitytoprovideandpayanInternetService Provider(ISP)foraconnectiontotheInternetforaccesstoonlinelessons,email andwebconferences.ItismyunderstandingthatifIcannotprovidemychild withinternetaccessathome,Iwillcommittofindinganalternatelocationfor him/hertowork.

4. Iunderstandthattheschoolisnotresponsiblefororabletofiltercontent streamingthroughmyhomeInternetconnection.

5. IunderstandthatImustmaintainanemailaddressforschoolcommunication.

6. IfmystudentusesaUSD#400laptop,Iagreetopaythecomputer/administrative feeof$50priortothestartofthenewschoolyear,andalsoagreetopaythe deductibleonthepolicyshouldthecomputerassignedtomystudentbreak, becomelost,orsustaindamagewhileinourpossession.

7. I knowthatIamliableforthecostofreplacement(includingrepair)forwillfully damaged, lost, or destroyed books, computers,software,orotherschoolproperty issuedtomebySVVCS.

8. If requested, I will sign, date andreturntheStudentActivityLogwithinthetime requested.

9. Iunderstanditismyresponsibilitytoprovidesupportneededtoallowmychildto successfullycompletetherequiredstateassessmentandsemestertestingthatmay requiretravelduringtheschoolyear (Thedatesforassessmentsandcountdays arenotedontheSVVCSStudentcalendar.)
