OUR CURRICULUM WHS offers a comprehensive sequence of courses that are aligned with the Maine Learning Results. A traditional 4x4 block schedule was used prior to 2011-2012. Classes currently meet 4 out of 5 days for 60 minute periods, for one semester (half credit) or the entire year (one credit). All students are required to carry a course load of 7 credits per year. Students are required to take three math courses including Algebra I and Geometry. The required science courses are lab-based and are part of an integrated science curriculum that includes earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics. Students may opt to take honors in English, science, history, and math; juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.0 may arrange independent study a n d i n te r n s h i p c r e d i t . T h e f o l l o w i n g Advanced Placement courses have been available onsite to the Class of 2012: English Literature & Composition, Calculus, & Studio Art. Juniors and seniors may opt to take classes offered through Virtual High School, in which 20 additional AP classes are offered, or may attend half-day classes at the Bath Regional Career and Technical Center. Two off-site alternative education programs are available to qualified students. All students are part of a small advisor group throughout their four years.

The coastal town of Wiscasset is located in Lincoln County along the banks of the Sheepscot River in the midcoast area of Maine. It is an hour north of Portland, Maine’s largest city, and a half-hour east of Augusta, the state capital. Tourism, fishing industries, and Bath Iron Works in nearby Bath, ME provide a majority of the employment opportunities for the town’s 3732 residents.

Wiscasset High School, built in 1961, is a public high school that serves students from eight towns in the Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit (RSU #12). A full complement of academic and extracurricular programs is available to the 214 students enrolled in grades 9-12. The average class size is 11.3 students and seventy-two percent of our teaching faculty have Master’s degrees. GRADING SYSTEM A+! A! A-! B+! B-! C+! C!
