Mansoor Daya Chemicals LTD Marks 50 Years Leader in manufacture and distribution of pharmaceuticals and aerosols in Tanzania for five decades
Mansoor Daya Chemicals manufactures a large range of products which can be broadly divided into pharmaceuticals, aerosols and over the counter preparations. These include anti-helminthics, anti-septics and disinfectants, anti-fungal, analgesics, cough and cold preparations, vitamins, sedatives, bronchodilators, oral hygiene products, nasal and ear preparations, insecticides and insect repellents. Founded in 1962 by Mr. Mansoor Daya, the company commenced manufacturing pharmaceuticals and aerosols. The company is located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city. The factory is conveniently located on the main road from the city centre to the international airport. Products manufactured include generic pharmaceuticals as well as formulations developed by Mansoor Daya. X-pel, an aerosol insecticide spray, and No-Bite, an insect repellent, have been household names in Tanzania since the company began and continue to remain popular.

X-pel is the leading insecticide spray in the Tanzanian market and is also exported to all surrounding countries. The company is highly regarded in Tanzania and its products were among the first to be certified and accredited by the Tanzanian Bureau of Standards. The company has been the recipient of several national and international awards. Recently the company was the recipient of a UNIDO grant to convert the aerosol manufacturing plant from using CFC (fluorocarbons) implicated in erosion of the Ozone layer to Butane gas. The company is now the only Tanzanian manufacturer of environmentally-friendly aerosols. exported to neighbouring countries. Our products were amongst the first to be registered on establishment of the Tanzanian Bureau of Standards (19).
Chloroquine tablets; Aspirin phacetin; and caffeine compound and Vitamin B complex tablets. By 1962, production had reached 500,000 tablets per day.
Reliable Environmentally Friendly Our aerosol manufacturing plant was converted from chlorofluorocarbons (ozone depleting) to environmentally-friendly inert hydrocarbons.
Now 50 years later, we can today manufacture over 3-million tablets per day using new machinery – but are only utilising 50% of our capacity. Through government encouragement with directive to buy local medicines, we will be able to utilise 90% of present capacity.
50 Year Anniversary The 50 Year Anniversary celebrations saw Mr. Mansoor Daya welcome representatives from partners across the world, including Switzerland, South Africa, and India. They have been vital in collaborations for our operations, local distribution, and wholesale – as well as promotion of our products. On foundation of the company in 1962, the factory was officially opened by the late Hon. Kasambala on behalf of the Father of the Nation, the late Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere. With beginnings in pharmaceuticals, initially only four items were manufactured: Aspirin tablets;
Mansoor Daya was the first company in East Africa to manufacture pharmaceutical and aerosol products, after opening a new factory in 1963 – becoming renowned as a household name for creating environmentally friendly mosquito and insect repellent. After introducing numerous new products, markets and exports expanded to Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. From 23 employees at the time, Mansoor Daya now employs 105 Tanzanian citizens. Today, the company manufactures over 50 of their own brand of high-quality
pharmaceutical products at affordable prices – such as Medioral Toothpaste and Medioral Mouthwash. Our factory has been developed in accordance with industrialised world standards with guidance from the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) since 2003. It is now a modern state-of-the-art pharmaceutical factory in Tanzania. Future Mansoor Daya Chemicals Limited has earmarked long-term plans to manufacture approved anti-malaria products and HIV medicine. This will need an additional
factory to meet increased demand of a rising population.
