Lower School Review

BY SUSAN CRANFORD
Research has shown that when students receive writing instruction, their reading fluency and comprehension improve. Writing is one of the hardest skills to teach a student, and it is also one of the most important. Our teachers are working hard to instill good writing habits in our children and also teach them to enjoy writing. Third grade is busy writing reports on an accomplished African American Our third graders are enjoying learning fun facts about these important people, and they will present their report to their classmates when they are finished with it. I can’t wait to see some of the presentations! Our fourth graders have studied Davy Crockett’s life and put events in chronological order They used a graphic organizer to help formulate well written sentences into a three paragraph expository essay. Students then typed the essay on their computer and added clip art pictures that related to his life. Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Karen had their students focus on the elements of good sentence structure, improving editing skills and participating in peer reviews.
