Founded in 1956, the Sutherland family has been in the printing business for four
generations. Sutherland Companies is a full-service sheetfed printing company with a national client base. With our printing and finishing capabilities and an around-the-clock workforce, we offer a great deal of versatility. Whether the project is small or large, our versatility allows us to be a one-stop shop. Our capabilities include prepress, printing, bindery, fulfillment, and shipping. Handling each and every facet of the job, Sutherland Companies will make printing easy.

The Montezuma facility is also recognized as an exceptional catalog, price list, and spec book manufacturer. In this facility, there are four presses handling everything from 1-color print to 6-color print with aqueous coating and perfecting capabilities.

REQUEST FOR QUOTE
INVOICING Sutherland Companies will invoice within 24-48 hours after shipping your product. Invoices can be mailed as a hard copy, faxed, or e-mailed at your request.
PAYMENT TERMS Sutherland payment terms are Net 30 days from invoice date. If you should require specialized terms, arrangements can be made through your salesperson.
SALES TAX If your business qualifies as tax exempt, please supply the Sutherland office with the appropriate tax exempt forms.
CUSTOMER SERVICE Our customer service department is a vital part of our company. We have a staff of very experienced and highly motivated customer service representatives that are committed to serving you, the customer. They are your voice in the plant and make every effort to understand your needs and communicate them accurately to our production staff. Your account will be assigned to a Project Coordinator who will be your direct contact as your project progresses through production. Your Project Coordinator will oversee all phases of production and will work with you and your staff to ensure that your job moves through the plant in an efficient manner.

Prepress–Overview Equipment List Creating a File FTP & PDF Technical Support
PRE-PRESS CUSTOMER SERVICE Our team of highly trained technicians are available to you 24 hours a day to solve any problems you may incur while preparing your files. We highly encourage you to communicate with us during file preparation. Our phone consultation time is of no charge to you. We are as interested in a smooth production process as you are and many times preplanning and testing of files ensure smooth production. If needed, we can arrange for an on-site consultation. To assist in timely production, notify your customer service or salesperson when we can expect files and what the final specifications of the project are, i.e., size, paper, quantity, page count.
PRE-PRESS CHECK LIST This is a very important step for you to take before sending or uploading files. However minute some of these check points may seem, these steps ASSURE smooth and timely production. “Before Sending Files” – The document setup should be your final trim size. – There needs to be a 1/8 inch bleed added without changing your document setup. – All of your artwork needs to be included in CMYK format. – All the fonts used need to be included. – Your folder should have three items in it. • A layout document • An art folder • A font folder – If using a spot color, please list the spot color number. If at all possible, include your last set of laser copies with the files. This way we know what you’re expecting and can check to ensure accuracy after RIPPING.

“Collect for output� does not always work 100%. A. Problem: If you have named 2 pictures the same name(scan1), the computer searches for names and when it finds the first scan1 it will quit looking for that name. Answer: Make an art folder for the job and put all the placed images in that folder and link to it. B. Problem: When retrieving fonts, the computer may grab just the screen fonts and not the postscript font. Answer: Make sure there is a screen font and printer font. Make a font folder for the job and only have those fonts open to do your final check. If you have a separate computer, take your disk over to it and load the fonts and open the layout program. Link the art to it and double check. Your final folder should look like this.
When there are two items overlapping each other the top item should have knockout clicked on so it does not overprint and you get both items showing where they overlap. Our recommended four color black is 50 cyan, 40 magenta, 30 yellow, and 100 black. When you use black type, use the color black, do not use registration. Registration is a four color build of black and may cause problems in production.
PDFing – Send in high res pdf's for best quality. – Make sure your files are CMYK before making the pdf. – Make your pdf's in single page format, not spreads. – Include an 1/8 inch bleed in your pdf's. – Name your pdf's such as, SuthPages1_8.pdf
FTPing – Our FTP site is: ftp.sutherlandprinting.com Login: ftpsuth Password: guest – Please name your folder or file by your company name. – Please email us once your file is uploaded so we know it is done. In the email, please put your company name, your name, the name of the file put on the ftp site and what the job consists of. Example: Hello, This is Sean at Sutherland Printing and I just uploaded a file named SuthMag to your ftp site. This is a 36 page, four color job.
Helpful Hints while FTPing: 1–Break your files down to around 50 mg if possible. 2–Stuff your files 3–Follow directions above 4–Use our site not yours. We could be wasting our time and your money searching through your site. 5–Make files CMYK not RGB. 6–Make spot color the same name. For instance, make pms 300 and pms 300CV both pms 300. 7–Give files an 1/8 inch bleed.

PREPRESS Sutherland Companies’ prepress department has a state-of-the-art color workflow system for rapid turnaround times. Our ability to accept media by virtually any method allows us to be just a click away. Files can be submitted by FTP, by e-mail, or by sending a disk. PDF proofs can expedite your proofing process. Our prepress department has all of the latest versions of QuarkXpress, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign in Mac format.
