July 8, 2022 was the first time I got to see you in years — I didn’t know it would be the last. After leaving the nursing home, we dropped Poppie off at home and I told Mom I wanted to look through your secret closet — the one you showed me growing up and said I wasn’t allowed in until I was older.

I am older now and it breaks my heart you didn’t get to hold my hand and see the smile on my face when I hit that vintage jackpot.

You were saving it for me — to finish something you started. Part of me knew this was the right time, but you made sure to give me a sign — or two.
