“The space was quite small, and enlarging it involved removing a load bearing wall. This meant we had to install steel girders to support the weight, but it was worth it – we now have a lovely, spacious bathroom that now runs the length of the bedroom,” says Kate. The final differences were to block a connecting door between sitting and playroom, and change the staircase and the front door. “The balustrade at the landing and the front door were both originally solid wood, but by simply replacing these with glass, it opened up and lightened the whole area,” she says. Once the structural work was finished, Kate had a clear vision of the decorating schemes she wanted. “I was still working as a yoga teacher and setting up my blog, but in my spare time that year we rented I was
