HIGHER STANDARDS AND THE SUPPORT TO ACHIEVE THEM At Cape Fear Academy, a long tradition of high academic standards is grounded in a uniquely supportive learning environment in which a skilled and caring faculty prepare students for success by challenging them to reach higher, try harder, and go further. The CFA experience forges capable young adults with the skills, confidence, and resilience to take risks, solve problems, and overcome challenges. From our three-year-old Little Explorers, who distinguish themselves with literacy scores far above grade level, to Upper School students whose AP test scores rank among the nation’s best, CFA students are top achievers. Small class sizes, individual attention, and a rich array of opportunities allow them to explore new horizons, discover their passions, develop unique gifts, and embrace the desire to reach their full potential. As a result, students uphold the traditions of academic excellence and achievement for which CFA has a well-earned reputation.

A thoughtful balance of nurture and nudge, these relationships develop CFA’s core values of respect, integrity, resilience, and accountability that sustain students through the challenges of college and beyond. Faculty also foster the social, emotional, and executive functioning skills that enable students to feel and show empathy, cultivate positive relationships, manage their responsibilities, set and achieve goals, and make good decisions. As students progress through the Middle and Upper Schools, greater freedoms and opportunities for independent learning come with the added trust and responsibilities that hold students accountable and help them mature into accomplished, self-directed thinkers, doers, and leaders.
