How To Become A Texas Patient
What’s the TCUP?
The Texas Compassionate Use Program (TCUP) allows a boardcertified physician to prescribe medical marijuana to patients diagnosed with a qualifying condition.
Originally enacted in 2015, the program was expanded in both 2019 and 2021 to include a wider range of conditions, including PTSD and all forms of cancer.
As of March 2022, there are over 53,271 TCUP patients and 716 prescribing physicians. That’s a lot of good going around!
How does Texas compare to other states?

There are some key differences between the TCUP and medical marijuana programs in other states.
The first is that patients don’t need a “medical card” to participate. The TCUP simply requires a prescription from a registered physician. Prescription information is regulated by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). This ensures that enforcement bodies like the Police Department are able to identify legal TCUP patients. Another difference is that Texas regulations restrict dosage to 1% THC by weight. No matter how experienced you are with marijuana consumption, it’s important to know how much THC is in your products, and to talk to your doctor about a recommended medical marijuana treatment plan.
The final difference – and this is a big one – is that smokable marijuana flower is still illegal in Texas. This means that patients cannot buy, grow, or smoke marijuana flower legally under any circumstances.
The lack of legal smokable flower is what drives us to offer the widest assortment of medical marijuana products in the state. Even the most traditional flower smokers will find a product that meets their needs.
Our team at goodblend consists of some of the best growers, chemists, chefs, and testing personnel in the state to ensure that our patients get safe, consistent access to the best products available.
To become a patient, you must be diagnosed with one of the over 150 qualifying conditions. We estimate around 5 million Texans currently qualify – so getting a prescription is easier than you may think. Below are some of the most common qualifying conditions.
PTSD
Muscle Spasticity
Neuropathic Pain

Cancer Autism & Similar Epilepsy & Similar
Alzheimer’s & Similar
Multiple Sclerosis
Parkinson’s
The first step is talking to a state-registered doctor who prescribes medical marijuana. As of April 2023, there are 716 prescribing physicians in the state. Each doctor’s policies, pricing, and prescription duration may differ, so make sure you work with someone who is a good fit for your needs.

FAQ S

Do patients receive a medical marijuana card to identify that they are in the TCUP program?
No, patients do not receive a card or other material proof of prescription. Some doctors may choose to send a physical card to their patients, but this is not required to place an order.
If you’re traveling within Texas with medical cannabis products, make sure to keep personal information readily available. If questioned by law enforcement, you must have the original product packaging with patient label, and direct law enforcement call DPS at (512) 424-7293 for prescription verification.
Why don’t you sell marijuana flower?
Smokable marijuana flower is still illegal in Texas. Because of this, we are unable to sell dried flower products for the purposes of smoking.
You may have seen stores offering “hemp flower” that resembles smokable marijuana. While hemp flower may look similar, it’s important to remember that these products are unregulated and not subject to quality testing. All goodblend products are lab-tested and approved by the Department of Public Safety, so you can feel confident that the medical marijuana you’re consuming meets the strictest quality & safety standards.
Can I grow my own marijuana flower?
Unfortunately, no, TCUP patients cannot grow their own marijuana flower. The purpose of the Texas Compassionate Use Program is to provide access to medical grade, regulated THC products for medical benefits of specific conditions.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept debit cards, cash, and CanPay.
It is important to note that our drivers cannot make change, so please bring the exact value when making cash purchases.
Where are goodblend products made?
Right here in Texas! At our headquarters in Austin, we cultivate the marijuana plants, extract the beneficial cannabinoids, process, and produce our entire product portfolio.

If you are a military veteran, pediatric patient, first responder, or have financial hardship, you may qualify for 20% off every order.
Simply email SupportTX@goodblend.com with a copy of your military ID or DD214, or other proof you are one of the above groups, and our team will apply the discount to your account, no code needed.
Treating PTSD with Cannabis
How cannabis can be incredibly therapeutic for people living with PTSD
Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, or PTSD, is a psychiatric condition that is usually caused by a violent, devastating, or life-altering event such as military combat, sexual abuse or assault, violent crime, or similar circumstances.
People living with PTSD cope with a wide variety of systems, including nightmares, vivid flashbacks, panic attacks, inability to focus, avoidance, depression, and extreme mood swings. Each person’s experience is unique, which means there is no universal treatment for PTSD. More and more, experts are recommending cannabis as an incredibly therapeutic treatment for PTSD.
Cannabis treats PTSD in several ways. Both CBD and THC work to reduce anxiety, which can be one of the most debilitating symptoms of PTSD.
Multiple studies have shown that CBD reduces stress and anxiety, while THC enhances the mood and fights depression.

Cannabis also helps treat insomnia and improves the quality of sleep for patients plagued with PTSD-related nightmares. Studies show that cannabis consumption reduces REM sleep, the stage of sleep where dreams are most vivid, allowing patients to fall asleep and stay asleep without the fear and stress brought on by nightmares.

Patients also report that cannabis-based treatments help stabilize their mood, allowing them to focus and function throughout the day without the overly sedative side effects of most pharmaceutical options. Most recently, researchers found that PTSD patients have an endocannabinoid deficiency –meaning that their systems are lacking the cannabinoids they need to function at a normal level. Cannabis treatments replace the lost compounds, restoring the body’s ability to cope with stress and anxiety. More studies are needed, but millions of people living with PTSD are already finding relief in cannabis-based treatments.
