Winter Weather Closing Bob’s Blog NEW WEEKEND PROGRAM HAS BENEFITS FOR EVERYONE When I first began working at Surrey, I did not fully understand the incredible commitment of family caregivers. These people dedicate their lives to caring for a spouse, a parent or other family member. Very often, they need to manage health insurance, medical care and finances while juggling personal care for their loved one. In many cases they are on call 24/7. They receive no breaks.

In the event of inclement weather, all Surrey sites will follow local school closing policies. If your School District is closed, Surrey activities will be cancelled, and the site closed. If the school districts announce a delay, all Surrey centers will open at 9:30. If you are not sure, please call your Surrey location before venturing out. Which is why Surrey Home Care developed Weekend Respite Care. This new, fee-based program is available on Saturdays and Sundays, two weekends per month. The program provides a 5 hour day of personalized activities, gentle exercise, lunch and snacks in a safe, caring environment. The wonderful part of this program is that it benefits not only the older adult but also gives the family caregiver some time to relax, see friends or run errands. Family caregivers have been delighted to hear about all the new things that clients tried and liked (chair yoga is one example) during the day. It is truly a benefit to all involved. If you know someone who is caring for a loved one and could use support, please tell them about this valuable program or have them call 610-647-9840.

Take the Stress Out of Driving to Your Procedure If you are having a same day procedure that requires anesthesia, such as a colonoscopy, cataract surgery or endoscopy, transportation to and from the medical facility can be a difficult problem. Usually, you must arrive early in the morning. Then, due to the anesthesia, you cannot drive yourself home. A taxi or Uber service is not an option because you must be accompanied by someone who will ensure that you are safely in your home. Surrey’s professional staff can help. Clients who use our Medical Procedure Transportation Service will be accompanied round trip from arrival through the discharge process and travel home. If necessary, this service can include prescription pick up, light meal preparation and same day post procedure care. Surrey takes the stress out of getting to and from these procedures. Find out more about this excellent, fee-based service at 610-647-9840.
