SAVAGE

WATCH OUT

SAVAGE The Savage is our high performance no cam sail. It resembles its cambered sister, the Phantom in the 7 batten configuration with a dropped tack. These sails share many of the features of our race winning Vapor in a more accessible and easy package. The additional tube batten gives added stability and higher wind range at the top end. The drop tack allows a better close of the gap and a more tensioned and fuller foot outline. The speed potential is a couple of knots higher than the Matrix. The drop clew with the outhaul pulley is more pronounced producing a moderate boom length with a relatively wide sail chord at this point, adding both power and control. Having no cams, the rotation in this quasi race sail is effortless; this is particularly nice on the smaller sizes in strong wind. A 5,5 has been added and the biggest size is a new 8,6.

FACTS

R&D Details

• use of C-Film // for better durability and performance • Radial Panel Layout 2G// improved layout for perfect and locked in sail shape, smooth profile, twist control and durability • 3D EVA mast protector // for maximum shock-absorbing and minimal weight • 3D mast head protector // for maximum shock-absorbing and minimal weight • dropped clew -// shorter boom, improved lower twist • even battens • no cambers • Drop tack with tension strap -//100% race sail performance • Compact outline with shorter luff -// the power stays low in the sail. • Dynamic twist pattern -// smooth behavior and blistering acceleration

The first thing you notice on the 2013 Savage is the dropped clew that replaced the inset clew. We wanted to focus on weight savings and simplicity so we decided to change the outline configuration at the clew for all our high performance sails. This also helps to reduce the swing weight at the clew. We reduced the width of many reinforcements around the perimeter of the sail and reduced the length of the mini battens for the same reason, all taking off unnecessary material without affecting function and durability. The new Savage twists lower in the leech for a smooth and progressive release. A more rounded entry gives it more pull forward and low. The new colored C-Film is part of the package as is the trademark radial panel layout.

BOTTOM LINE All the advantages of a race sail without all the disadvantages of cambers! Jibes like a free ride sail, has speed like a race sail. What more could you ask for?
