A Wildes weekend in store ALTERNATIVE country quartet, The Wildes, will showcase their talents throughout the region this weekend. The Melbourne-based outfit will kick off their local tour by playing The Piping Hot Chicken Shop at Ocean Grove on Friday, before heading to The Red Till in Anglesea on Saturday and finally Ba Ba Lu in Lorne on Sunday. The region shows are part of a national tour which has seen the band venture along the east coast of Australia for a host of shows over the past six weeks. The tour is known as the Sue Ellen Tour – after the single launched recently which has proven a major hit. The Sue Ellen Tour will see the band, whose debut record ranked runner up in Radio National’s Album of The Year list in 2009, perform in intimate venues such as theatres, galleries and even converted churches. The tour and single release is complemented by a brand new music video from director and collaborator Sean Genders (who also conceived and directed the band’s award winning clip Ballad of a Young Married Man from the debut album of the same name). The video tells the story of one fan’s encounter with the band on a fateful evening in an outback town. Despite its tragic overtones it’s an uplifting clip, steeped in oldschool charm and Polaroid nostalgia.
This latest offering continues to illustrate The Wildes’ love of storytelling and exudes the warmth of the band’s live show.

It also coincides with the International Year of Biodiversity, declared by the United Nations. For teachers, this is a great addition to the curriculum, developing skills in the areas of filmmaking, creative thinking, team work, research techniques and presentation tricks. Of course, it wouldn't be a competition without great prizes (including a state-ofthe-art portable projector from Mitsubishi Electric for the primary and secondary schools with the best overall entries), and the rewards extend to being featured at the annual awards ceremony in Melbourne and having work showcased online and to visitors of ACMI via the Australian Mediatheque.
