Horror on the stage BY ALISON MARTIN ASPIRING performers are being offered an exciting opportunity to pursue musical theatre on the Bellarine, with auditions for Little Shop of Horrors extended. The popular rock musical, which found Broadway success in the 1980s, has been selected
by local theatre group, Bellarine Jongleurs, as its major production for 2011. Bellarine Jongleurs member and Little Shop of Horrors director, Brandon Davey, said some of the lead roles had been taken but there were great opportunities for anyone interested in musical theatre to join the production. Davey has broad acting experience and taken
charge of musical direction however he is excited with the scope he will have as director for Little Shop of Horrors. He encouraged anyone with a passion for singing and dancing to audition for a part – even a minor role. The Bellarine Jongleurs are inviting performers aged 18-plus who “can sing and dance preferably but most importantly have an interest in live musical
theatre” to join the production. A cast of 12 is needed for Little Shop of Horrors, which will be presented at the Potato Shed on July 27, 28 and 29. For more information, contact Bellarine Jongleurs on 0424 414 244 or Brandon Davey on 0448 889 038, emailing bellarinejongleurs@hotmail.com or check out the local theatre group on Facebook.

TWO LEOPOLD Football Club players are mixing it with the big boys after being drafted as Australian Football League rookies. Jye Bolton and Luke Dahlhaus, both 18, are now backed by some of AFL’s highly prized teams. Now on rookie lists for Collingwood and Western Bulldogs, the boys are ready to step in and play if injuries to senior players occurred. Bolton has already played three games for Collingwood – against Sydney, Richmond and Carlton. “It’s very exciting. I was over the moon to get this opportunity,” he said. “My goal is to be on the senior list by the end of the year. I want to play as hard as I can and build a solid career in AFL. I want to be respected as an elite athlete and do the best I can.” Bolton moved to Leopold from Drysdale at 16.
“The Lions really took me in under their wing and gave me so much support. It was a great move for me. It is an excellent club,” he said. Club president, Phil Carmichael, said the running midfield-forward quickly showed promise and has developed “sensationally”. “Both these boys have done so well. We are very proud of them. We work really hard to develop our players so it is a real thrill to see this. Both these guys are excellent players and are very dedicated to the sport,” Carmichael said. “This is fantastic. What a great achievement for these young guys. It is a huge credit to Lions coach Aaron Greaves who trained these boys.” Dahlhaus began his career as a junior with Lions and played his first senior game at 16, after which he went to the Geelong Falcons. “He only played one game of seniors and he showed so much promise the Falcons picked him up,” Carmichael said.
