Johnson knew early on that construction was her calling. She attended Texas Tech University, graduating
with
a
degree
in
construction
engineering. She began working with Theodore Williams Construction, Inc. in 1991. From that time, Johnson began using her own distinct ideas about interior construction, creating her own role. She moved up the corporate ladder and was running the company alongside the president when he stepped down in 2000. In 2001, Shelby Johnson bought Theodore Williams Construction.
