A New Earth – Now What Buddha’s Astrology Shows Us!

By Melanie Dufty

“All eclipses are harbingers of change, ushering in evolution.”

The Buddhist Wesak Festival or Buddha’s birthday is celebrated at the May full moon, marking the birth, enlightenment and death of the great master Siddhartha Gautama Shakyamuni. It’s said we are showered at this time with extra blessings from both Buddha and a host of Ascended Masters.

The details of his birth are unconfirmed, however it’s understood he was born under strong Taurean energy, hence the Wesak celebration in May, when the sun is in Taurus. It’s no coincidence that the essence of Taurus concerns mastering non-attachment and the practically-divine art of living, both fundamental concepts in Buddhism.

Wesak Eclipse

This year Wesak falls on May 16, on the full moon in Taurus’ partner sign Scorpio. It also happens to be a total lunar eclipse that extends the transformational energies of this Wesak. It’s the third eclipse in the current cycle of seven, taking place across the axis of Taurus and Scorpio, which began November 2021 and ends October 2023.

At a lunar eclipse, the shadow of the Earth falls across the face of the moon bringing unconscious feelings to the surface. This allows for culminations of emotional cycles that have run their course, helping us let go of what no longer serves.

The Scorpio energy brings themes of transformation, death, and rebirth, which is ultimately about enlightenment and, with the Wesak blessings and powers of a total lunar eclipse; this is an ultrahelpful time to release the attachments holding us back from fulfilling our soul purpose.

“To be attached to something or someone, there must be two separate things; that which is being attached to and the person who’s attaching.”

The Themes

All eclipses are harbingers of change, ushering in evolution. Eclipses are triggered by the movement of the moon’s karmic south and north nodes, or past and future destiny markers, which are currently moving through Scorpio and Taurus respectively, in essentially the same timeframe.

The current eclipse cycle pushes the evolution of these two signs, bringing forward the transformation of their themes around money, resource management, refinement of values and lifestyle choices, and issues of power and control.

Thus economic and resource management will continue experiencing upheaval, especially with the planet of shake-ups and liberation, Uranus, still moving through Taurus in the coming few years.

The personal realms of life where we carry Taurus and Scorpio in our natal charts, is also up for some serious change through the full eclipse cycle. We’re purging what’s no longer needed in connection to our Scorpionic past, as this is where the south node is transiting. This purging connects to themes around power and control, the way we manage and share money and resources, sexuality and deep intimacy, the ‘devil inside’, our fears and secret shadows.

With the positive future energy of the north node simultaneously moving through Taurus, we’re pushed to build stability and practical sustenance. It also allows us to embrace a more enlightened value system that transcends attachment to material possessions, sensual overindulgence and other people.

Taurean Qualities of Buddhism

The sign of the holy cow or bull helps us create true higher meaning and value in a grounded and practical life, requiring non-attachment. On the way to mastering this, unevolved Taurus is acquisitive and possessive.

These Taurean higher principles are easily seen in Buddhism. Its Four Noble Truths are based on non-attachment, with the fourth truth being a series of practical rules and methods for living life.

The ability to find Nirvana requires us to master non-attachment, which can be seen as the realisation we are all One. To be attached to something or someone, there must be two separate things; that which is being attached to and the person who’s attaching. In non-attachment there’s unity, as there is nothing to attach to when we have unified with the universe.

In a much bigger perspective than Wesak or the current eclipse cycle, the Earth and those humans who are ready, willing and able are in the intense throes of entering an era of unity after about 12,000 years of experiencing separation.

In this context, the teachings of the Buddha and this year’s extra potent Wesak are more helpful than ever, as we are at push-point to find unity in our Earthly existence.

The art of living with Taurean mastery is designed for us to progress in leaps and bounds over the next 17 or so months.
