It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane … March 10, 2011 | 10:33 AM | Sports | By Frank Johnson

It’s a couple of completely unqualified local writers trying to kill themselves at Firebird Raceway Yes, we’ve got something a little different for you today. A few weeks back, we learned about a crazy-cool experience now being offered to Valley motorsports fanatics. Named Arrive and Drive, this adrenaline-fueled adventure lets casual racing fans get behind the wheel of a SuperLite Racing Series truck. AKA the same high-flying, 800-horsepower 4X4′s the pros will be flooring around the track at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler as part of next weekend’s Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series. However, this program is a more than just a Rent-A-Car service for amateur leadfoots. Instead, participants will be presented with a fully-prepared SuperLite Race Truck, backed by your own professional race crew, including a designated chief and spotter, as well as racing fuel, tires and all other race support equipment. In other words, all you have to do is show up and step on the gas. Plus, like any other real racer, you’ll be included in the event’s promotional materials and featured in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing TV coverage. So who’s crazy enough to sign up for something like this? Well, famed ESPN X Games driver, Andrew Comrie-Picard for one. And a couple of local writers, for two. Yes, Scoop Factory’s own, Dawson Fearnow, and infamous local food blogger, Eric Eats Outs, will be taking these Superlite trucks for a spin tomorrow. Check back in on Monday when we reveal the results to our readers. Hopefully they have WiFi at the nearest hospital.
