Rhythms Literary Club – 11:25 a.m., Elston 245. Rhythms is SCCC’s student-run literary club. The group’s primary function is to produce an annual magazine of literature (short stories, plays, poems, songs, essays, etc.) and artwork (drawings, photographs, etc.), created by SCCC students, faculty and staff. The group also sponsors coffee-houses, readings, and other literary events. All students are welcome.

Community Roundtable: Economic Inequality, American Dreams – 5:30 p.m., Lally Mohawk Room. Panelists will discuss the causes and effects of the increasingly lopsided growth pattern of the U.S. economy, and invite audience members to share their own experiences and analysis of the situation. Panelists: James Collins: Professor, Department of Anthropology and Program in Linguistics, University at Albany/SUNY; Jose E. Cruz: Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Latino, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies, University at Albany/SUNY; and Gregory Nowell; Ph.D., Associate Professor with a specialization in International Relations and IPE, Department of Political Science, University at Albany/SUNY. Moderator: Babette Faehmel, Assistant Professor in the SCCC Division of Liberal Arts.

Celebrating Fire Educators. Peter A. Lattanzio, retired Chief of the Town of Colonie Fire Services, was the recipient of the Fifth Annual Melvin E. Bartlett Sr. Fire Safety Educator Award this past Friday at SCCC. See photos from the event.

It Was a Hoot! Did you catch the rare birds that were in Stockade 101 this past Tuesday? Admissions Director Dave Sampson did and snapped the photos above. The event was sponsored by the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York.

On October 20, The Science Club was visited by Darrell Pinckney, who spoke on “Artifact Conservation.�

Coming Up: SCCC Hockey Night at the Devils! Come out and enjoy SCCC College Night presented by the Albany Devils and Professor Farron’s Marketing class on Friday, November 21 at 7 p.m. at the Times Union Center. A promotional $5 ticket will be available to Schenectady County Community College students, faculty and staff and their guests. This price is greatly reduced for SCCC, so take advantage of this great opportunity for a fun night out. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Albany Devils table from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Student Commons area (across from the Security Desk) on the following dates: Wednesday, November 5, Monday, November 10, and Tuesday, November 18. Arrangements to purchase tickets can also be made by contacting scccdevilstickets@gmail.com. The above flier was designed by Prof. Farron’s marketing students.

For a Great Cause! The Student Volunteer Organization is selling raffle tickets for gift baskets through November 17 in the Commons Area or in Elston 202. The money raised will be used to purchase gifts for the holidays for families in Schenectady County.
