The studio allowed us to design with different maetrials and methods to bring up a sustainable building. We looked at various parameters that could be incorporated to make the building sustainable like Form and Orientation, Thermal Comfort, Dylighting, Solar Shading and other passive design strategies. Taking public architecture inclusive to institute design, the semester focused on various nuances of Institution Design in relation to what it can offer to the public other than the core program. Ideas of how an institution can compliment its program in terms of architecture was explored. Another added lens to this intent was the exploration of tall building- a low footprint in an urban site. To study and understand the nature of an institution and to design a campus with all its culture and vibrance spread vertically.’’ Kiran Kumar

PORTFOLIOA Community Center

Ramakrishna Nagar in Mysuru is mostly a residential area, with educational institutions, community halls and temples seen throughout the area. The close proximity of the location to Ramakrishna Nagar Circle and other important offices around make it a perfect center. The functions of the Muda Complex is retained with added spaces and activities for the community.

Ramakrishna Nagar, Mysuru Public Building Design | Semester 05 A Community Center is a place for the public to interact, celebrate, leisure, raise voice and what not. A Muda Complex could be more than just a building for offices. It could indeed be a center for the entire community around, like a marker, like a stage to learn, teach, question and grow.

PORTFOLIORelative Study Program

Mahadevapura, which is 11kms from Mysore is home to a small agrarian commu nity on the banks of the Cauvery river. This was once caller “Inam grama”, a tax free village deemed by the king owing its contribution to the well-being of the region. Rich in its culture it sustained the tradition of folk stories, proverbs, riddles and folk songs - Janapada Geete. It is now known as “Shooting Ma hadevapura” due to numerous movies which are picturised here because of its scenic beuty. Their social interaction derived from their occupation, rituals and festivals throws light on their identity and rootedness to the community, where people through all these layers are “one” and have a very distinct identity of their own.
