Kelleigh Bannen, one of country music’s fastest-rising women for her hit song “Sorry on the Rocks,” and Tampa television weatherman Jim Van Fleet will headline the second annual Sumter County Beef and Boogie Festival, Saturday and Sunday, November 9-10, at the Sumter County Fairgrounds near Webster. The festival opens Saturday, November 9, at 10am with a flag-raising ceremony and patriotic songs. Rainer Berry, a Sumter County native and a talented singer, songwriter 8

and musician, launches the live entertainment at 1:30pm. The Dan Story Band takes the stage at 3pm. The Dan Story Band was formed in the spring of 2005 to support a national single being released to radio from the album 300 Horses. Dan had signed the previous year to a recording contract with Radiance Records in Nashville and recorded a full length album project with two singles released, both charting on Music Row. The band currently performs throughout Florida and southern Georgia playing a variety of genres including country, southern rock and classic rock. They have opened for John Anderson, Darrell Singletary, David Lee Murphy, Chris Cagle and Aaron Tippin. Rainer Berry returns to the stage at 4:30pm, followed by Clemons Road at 5:30pm. Blending Country music with an island feel or vice versa, Clemons Road pulls its influences from Sublime to Alan Jackson, Dave Matthews to Jimmy Buffett, or Lynyrd Skynyrd to the Zac Brown Band. Grammy award winning music producer Cliff Brown and lifelong best friend and bandmate Eric Long have traveled the country playing together in various bands. Fiddle and piano player Jason Baker has played professionally with many western swing and bluegrass acts nationally. Bannen’s music reflects the essence of the artist herself—stylish yet substantive, tender and heartfelt yet bold and uncompromisingly direct. She makes her bow at country radio with “Sorry on the Rocks,” taking aim at a lover who offers too little too late to make the relationship work. In 2009, she embarked on a “90 Gigs in 90 Days” tour that led to her record deal. However, much more than just a vehicle to propel her budding career, the tour was a personal mission in honor of her younger brother Grant who passed away after a long battle with addiction. “The one year anniversary of his death was looming and I was thinking about what I could do with my music that would honor Grant and this idea struck,” says Bannen, who used the tour to draw attention to addiction and the dedication it takes for an addict to commit to a recovery program. “The premise is when people are entering recovery, they go to 90 meetings in 90 days if they are working in an AA program so I thought, ‘Okay what if I can play 90 shows in 90 days?’” Bannen is poised to release a new album this year. On Sunday, November 10, the entertainment begins at 2:30pm with County Line Road. The band was founded in December of 2011 by Bron Burbank and Rich Travis. A Triumph of Community Partnership A coalition of businesses, community leaders and residents has come together to make the Sumter County Beef and Boogie Festival possible. From business sponsors large and small, to a diverse and active committee that has accepted the daunting task of producing a wide-ranging event in Sumter County, the Beef and Boogie Festival represents the work of an exciting partnership of hands-on contributors. Sumter County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Andrew Cripps said, “The success of the Beef and Boogie Festival is a direct result of the tremendous effort and cooperation of the business and community leaders who have worked side by side to make it happen. I’m proud to be part of this group. It is a wonderful experience to work with all these capable and unselfish people, and to see the event come together,” Cripps said. The goal of the festival is to celebrate the thriving beef industry in Sumter County, its role in our history and heritage, and its importance to the local economy. The cattle industry in Sumter County is ranked ninth in the state of Florida in beef cows with 45,000 head. The county is home to one of the state’s earliest cattle markets, established in 1937, and to Central Beef Industries, the processing plant that is responsible for 98% of the beef processed in Florida. There are currently more than 13,000 acres of forage to support the cattle industry. New to the 2013 Beef and Boogie Festival is the addition of a pork ribs category to the cookoff competitions, and $1,000 cash prizes for the winners in each category. Also new is a move from the historic Sumter County Farmers Market in Webster to the nearby Sumter County Fairgrounds. That move takes advantage of plentiful free parking, and allows the organizers to change from a Friday-Saturday schedule to a Saturday-Sunday schedule, which they believe will result in greater attendance. The Chamber’s events committee chair is Nathan Overstreet of Langley Health Services in Sumterville. Beef and Boogie Committee members include Brandell Campbell of CEMEX; Tony Kamus of Purcell Funeral Chapel in Bushnell; Connie Mahan of Connie Mahan Realty Group in Bushnell; Joe Capporelli of Capporelli Financial Services in Bushnell; 14

Marc and Cheryl Kozak of Blue Monster Promotions; Samantha Merritt of the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce; Barbara Kane of the Sumter County Fair Association; Brooke Hibbard of CenterState Bank; Fred Clark of AAwareness Marketing in Inverness; Beth and Eddie Kenny of Rubbin’ Bones Bar-B-Q; among others. Presenting Sponsors of the Beef and Boogie Festival are Bright House Networks, Galaxy Home Solutions and The Sumter Shopper. Entertainment Sponsors are CenterState Bank; Connie Mahan Real Estate Group; Entertainment Designers Network; Plaza Cadillac. Supporting Sponsors include ACMS Inc./Heart of Florida Environmental; Baker’s Nursery and Golf Carts; Booth, Ern, Straughn and Hiott Inc.;Gresco Utility Supply; Microtel Inns and Suites in Bushnell; Mike Scott Plumbing; PSL Construction; and SECO Energy. Business sponsors include Purcell Chapel/Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory and the Sumter County Fair Association. For more information about the Sumter County Beef and Boogie Festival, visit www.beefandboogie.com or phone (352) 793-3099. This event has been funded in part by a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Sumter County Tourist Development Council. For more information on Sumter County, visit www.sumtercountyfl.gov. The Sumter County Chamber of Commerce is the primary business organization in Sumter County, Florida, representing more than 470 members. Its purpose is to educate, support and promote business in Sumter County. For information about membership, please contact the chamber at 352-793-3099 or visit www.sumterchamber.org.
