Senior Wins Cappies Award for Female Vocalist Senior M’racle Bryant-Morgan was recognized for her performance in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella in the Female Vocalist category at the annual Kansas City Cappies Award Gala. “M’racle is a radiant young woman with a smile that is effervescent, generous, and caring,” shared SCA Theatre Director Nancy Horine. “Her portrayal of the Fairy Godmother was pure joy, and full of whimsical wit. Rodgers and Hammerstein could be grinning from the clouds above watching her twirl and musical vocal talent.” The Kansas City Cappies works with high school theatre students all over the metropolitan area. The season culminates with a grand gala event, with performances from the top ranked plays and musicals from the season, and awards given for the best performers, technicians, and writers of the year. SCA Theatre is a member of the KC Cappies as well as the International Thespian Society. Senior M’racle Bryant-Morgan received the Cappie for Female Vocalist for her portrayal of the Fairy Godmother in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Theatre Students Receive Starlight Theatre’s Blue Star Nomination Two secondary students were nominated for Starlight Theatre’s Blue Star Awards for their performances in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Starlight’s annual Blue Star Awards recognize achievement and excellence in musical theatre among Kansas City area high school students. High schools in metropolitan Kansas City and surrounding areas are invited to participate, and each year 5,000 area students contribute either on the stage or behind the scenes in their school’s musical theatre production. Forty-eight musicals participated this year and there are seven nominations for each category. SCA senior Hudson Harris received a nomination for Best Male Actor in a Lead Role for his performance as Topher (the Prince). “Hudson embodied boyish charm, combined it with firm determination, transparent hope of a better future for his kingdom, and tender love, mingled with respect, simply brought the dreamy tale to life in a myriad of ways,” shared SCA Theatre Director Nancy Horine. “Then he sang…. We won’t forget the humility and mastery of line, pause, romance, and humor he gave so effortlessly through Prince Topher.” SCA freshman Emma Coats received a nomination for Best Female Actress in a Featured Role for her performance as Charlotte (step-sister). “Emma’s portrayal of Charlotte was bright, bubbly, commanding, and so adorably annoying, we just couldn’t get enough of her surprises onstage,” shared Mrs. Horine. “Her voice is an endless powerhouse of belt and blissful notes that
