about I am a quiet person. As for one of my goals, I keep telling myself that I want to experience and learn everything there is to. Other than that, my primary purpose of being, is to be able to help better lives. That is what I aim to achieve through anything I engage in the future. Having gone through the process of architectural education, with a period of doubt, I’ve been able to come to terms with the condition and been able to define my own purpose in life and in the field of my practice as a designer. As a result of this process of examination, I have developed the tendency to doubt pre-existing notions and way for things. It works towards developing the way I think, as my understanding thus becomes a result of experience or a thought process. Personally, I prefer, believe in, staying close to natural elements and that reflects in the way I tend to think of creating an experience, design, that brings together the elements and provides a user centric model. Also I want to be able to engage in practices beyond architecture, and do possess the desire to learn anything and everything new.

01. School at Narela Sector A-7, Architecture for Improving Education Culture This work looks into prevalent education culture of the country, and the limitations of the schooling overall. A look at the culture of schooling being in question, and how it can be improved. A search for answers is carried out in the alternate, Indian culture based, educational approaches in practice and their positives, with possible application to the prevalent schooling of the country. The concepts explored are then, again looked at in terms of built form and how it has been applied to enhance educational experience. The investigation also takes into account a possible location for such an approach to be implemented and a site is located in Narela sub city of Delhi. The Design procedure with integration of the drivers from research and individual site based concepts is carried out and an appropriate result is achieved. The result is a take at addressing the cultural limitations of the schooling in India in terms of built form.

03. Dharamshala Design, for Laxmi Narayan Mandir, New Delhi The design for the Dharamshala for the Laxmi Narayan Temple was a small scale yet one requiring a amount of mental involvement in order to preserve the religious identity of the Temple. To be able to connect and be with the mandir while being in the dharmashala complex, and to feel the same spiritual energy and environment the mandir provides, the place has to be more than just a building, involving the people and the emotions as one the key design determinants.

04. Architectural Folly, for a Site of 30m x30m The design of the folly was a very exciting one, as there were no pre-requisites and things had to come from the emotional expression of yourself. The expression of the emotion in a form and thus creating an experience that can give a similar feeling to the user was a tricky task. Although the attempt is at bringing out the emotion of hope, the experience differs as the emotions are subjective to one’s self.

The choice of material to go with the mood created by the shadows was concrete with a very rough texture. The grounds and the surfaces of the structure are to be fashioned in order for the different types of grasses to grow on them. This gives the space a damp and cold nature compared to outside.

01. Design and the Night Dissertation As our cities move into 24-hour functioning giants, the need to create favourable environment for functioning throughout the night becomes essential. To create a unique night time experience for a city as opposed to the general notion of insecurity at night, various professionals need to work together. In order to create citizen friendly nightscapes, various policies need to be implemented. Also, it comes to the designers of space and lighting as such a cityscape requires positive behaviour inducing spaces that needs to be specially designed for the scenario. The urban planning for the nightscapes also becomes the job of the designers. This study aims to find the enablers for a city and a space to function during the night time. To find the common ground between policy makers and the designers of spaces in order to work towards paving a road for cities to function during the night time. Keywords: Night time spaces, 24 hour cities, Night time governance, Night studies.

02. Structure of Internship in B.Arch. Program for Professional Practice Studio The Internship Structure for the Architectural Education in India with respect to the way it is carried as well as the way it is added up towards the professional degree /license. This paper analyses the existing systems for the Architectural Internships with different examples, their positives and negatives. In a similar fashion the Internship structures in the UK and USA are studied. Their structure and the system that goes towards counting the experience for a professional degree and license. The comparison with the Indian counterpart is carried out and the conclusions towards a better system are reached.

03. The Missing Link in Design Seminar- Research In trying to understand how design might emerge as a problem, we start our research with a detailed study of the process of design. In the first paper theories about design and Design Thinking are looked into to build an understanding of “design” as a process and Design Thinking as a “tool”. The greater roles of a designer, specifically an architect, is looked into in the next paper. Providing user centric solutions emerges as a key role. Through studies of different models of Low Cost housing, the third paper looks at how architects in practice fulfill their role of creating user centric designs, or fail to do so. The fourth paper goes back to design theories and looks at the Empathy step in detail. The risks of failure in the process of empathy are identified and possible solutions are discussed. Paper 1. Understanding Design as a Tool This paper aims to look at few early attempts to conceptualize design as a framework of methods to better situations. A further look at contemporary theories on ‘design thinking’ breaks down the process into a well-structured toolkit. Paper 2. Purpose of Architecture and its Expression in Architectural Design The practice of Architecture aims to fulfill some basic purposes. This work aims to look at such purposes, and how the application of it affects the state of design from ideation to the product. The method being, the designs looked at through the prioritization of these basic purposes by the designer, and analysis of an ideal state for these decisions. Paper 3. User-centricity in Design: A Comparative Study This part of seminar studies the need of end user and the steps taken to achieve those needs of user such as social cohesion, sense of belongingness, dignity, and nature of growth. Comparative analysis of Aranya low cost housing in Indore and Elemental’s Social Housing in Chile shows the approaches of two different designers in order to fulfill the need of end user in case of affordable housing. A primary study of Kathputli Colony shows how designers fail to empathize enough with the end user. Proposed design does not seem to fulfill the current needs of the Kathputli Colony. Paper 4. Art of Empathy “Designerly” way of thinking uses empathy as a tool to introduce user centricity in design. Based on examples from Architecture and other fields of design, this paper looks into the process of empathy and tries to break down this largely instinctive and emotional technique into smaller fathomable steps. Possible risks that the designer might face in some of these steps, will be looked into, and probable solutions shall be discussed.

01. At Dharmalaya Institute/ under Didi Contractor Volunteering and Internship, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh Two months Volunteering at Dharmalaya Institute for sustainable living and a month long Internship with Eco-Architect Didi Contractor gave me an insight into the neo-vernacular style of building practiced by Didi in the context of the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The approach sticks to Eco-friendly, sustainable building with the use of natural building materials. A process involving on site design and implementation with hands on learning for the students directly from the skilled artisans. The practice is derived from the vernacular construction of Kangra district where the similar technique has been used and is still in practice in the traditional houses.

The Use of Hand-Made Earthen bricks in the building. Different shaped bricks are used for different purposes. The Above Image shows the use of such bricks for a Column with a minimal amount of steel for reinforcement. The Wall finish consisted of three layers; first just mud from sewed soil; second mud with cow dung, paper pulp and rice husk; and the outermost thin layer with mud from finely sewed soil added with cow dung,

Roofing similar to the traditional rafter and purlins of wood and bamboo, topped with the local slates. In addition, for increasing storeys, and cases where required, the variant used was with an addition of split bamboo topped with chicken mesh to create a layer of ferro-cement.

Structure with the combination of stonework, bamboo and mud bricks- the Solar cooker- had interior layers of linseed slime, rice husk, and woolen coating in parts- painted black.

02. At Zynorique under Ar. Richard Belho Internship, Kohima, Nagaland My time with Zynorique gave me an insight into th dynamics of Social Architecture. The practice is built on connecting with the local youth, and imparting knowledge, required skills in order for them to sustain themselves. All of this started with and roots in the OrgWanization’s Architectural Practice. Where there is freedom, the practice works towards building an inclusive system, providing Architecture as a part of the solution and advocating local. As a part of it, the firm advocates building with bamboo, the extensively used material in the region.
