TO MEASURE IS TO KNOW One of the shortcomings in today’s sulphur processing is an adequate determination of the
TURBIDITY ANALYSER
ash content in the filtrated sulphur. One method is sampling followed by laboratory testing. However this is a time consuming and a non reliable method. When sampling the product from a pipe to measure turbidity, it is no longer a "process" measurement. Sampling allows other influences such as time, settling, cross contamination and temperature to affect the sample reading. This being said, process turbidity is not a laboratory, bench-top, or grab sample measurement. When lab results are available and transferred to the operators the process situation can be completely different. Sulphurnet offers an online turbidity measurement system designed to provide in-line real time control of the ash content in the sulphur filtrate line. The Sulphurnet Turbidity Analyser (STA) can be used in a variety of industrial high-pressure, high-temperature processes including monitoring the ash content in liquid sulphur filtration. The STA offers the following benefits:
⇒
Real-Time monitoring ash level
⇒
Measures Low ppm range
⇒
Suitable for high temperatures
⇒
No calibration required
Bright thinking, bright results!
Turbidity measurement how does it work? The Sulphurnet Turbidity Analyser uses light in the near infrared (NIR) range from 730 to 970 nm. A precisely defined, constant light beam penetrates the liquid sulphur. Light scattered from (traces) particles in the medium is detected by eight hermetically-sealed silicon photo diodes at an angle of 11°. Simultaneously, the unscattered light is detected by a reference photo diode. This unique dual-channel design compensates for disturbances such as background color or color changes of the carrier medium. This turbidity meter can be calibrated in PPM or FTU and measures extremely low particle sizes and concentrations. Liquid sulphur is orange in color, but the turbidity is not color related. Turbidity

suspended solids (TSS); it relates to the loss of transparency due to the effect of suspended particulates like ash or filter aid. The increase of turbidity results in less clarity or clearness. The various suspended materials effects the light passing through the liquid sulphur. The turbidimeter measures total suspended solids in real-time allowing operators to control product clarity, a turbidimeter is installed in the filtrate line. If sulphur turbidity reaches an unacceptable level, the flow can be automatically recirculated or switched off. Particle concentrations are monitored, color independent at a direct light detector Control Module The control module is designed for the Sulphurnet Turbidity Analyser and displays the the ash concentration in real-time as text, graphics. Unit of measurement is in ppm. The system can be supplied with a 316SS housing as well as a 19” rack version. It has 4-20mA outputs and 3-relay outputs, which can be used for alarm
Jacketed Piping The system is supplied as 1 complete unit; ⇒ Jacketed piping with implemented optical window. ⇒ Jacketed piping with ANSI flanges ⇒ Lamp module and optical sensor ⇒ Cable for connection to the control module

Process Instrumentation Precise control of temperature and pressure is important in operating a Liquid Sulphur Filter. Process instrumentation as Pressure Differential or Temperature transmitters can be integrated in the operation panel. A Read Out Display shows actual values so operators have control on the process. The output signals be used for alarms or can be transferred to the central PLC in the operators control room. We offer solutions with various protocols (HART, Ethernet, Profibus and more) and instrumentation suitable for liquid sulphur processing.
Piping equipment and Consumables Full Jacketed Plug and Ball Valves Sulphurnet offers a complete line of fully jacketed PTFE Sleeved Plug Valves and Ball Valves. The welded jackets reach from flange to flange and assure consistent valve heating to prevent sulphur to crystallize. Steam is used as carrier for heating. Every valve is pressure tested after the jacket has been welded to the body. All valves are available in Carbon- as well in Stainless-Steel. Gear operation for larger size valve is available. Sulphurnet offers valves complete with actuators and all forms of automation. Standard range are 150# and 300# from ½”up to 16”.
